SUBSCRIBE NOW/ CALL 376-0496 Will Be Seen January 17-18 “Weekend With The Stars Telethon For Cerebral Palsy” The third national “Weekend with the Stars Telethon for Cere bral Palsy,” which successfully raised more than $13 million last year, airs coast-to-coast the week end of January 17-18. The exciting parade of talent features a galaxy • of Hollywood stars, in 21 continu ous hours of entertainment. WSOC-TV, Channel Nine, carries the show locally beginning at 11:30 p.m. on Saturday and continuing through 7 p.m. on Sunday. Arthur Smith hosts the telethon in Char lotte,. Throughout the telethon. WSOC-TV, Channel Nine, presents local entertainment and demon strations of. local cerebral palsy services, along with segments of the network show. National telethon hosts include John Ritter, Paul Anka, Dennis James, Henry "The Fonz" Wink ler, Gavin MacLeod, Joyce De Witt and Dick Van Patten. Nancy Ritter, Stacey Winkler, Pat Van Patten and Patti MacLeod appear with their husbands on the telethon to add a family touch to the star-studded cast. Dean Martin appears throughout the telethon as a special guest. As in the past, the telethon emanates from Hollywood, Las Vegas, New York and Charlotte. itninnnNNHNMNK Many celebrities such as those who appeared on last year’s telethon are expected to lend their talent to the 21 -hour extravaganza: Frank Sinatra, Bob Hope, Carol Burnett, Debbie Boone, Neil Sedaka, Donny and Marie Osmond, Vikki Carr, Sandy Duncan, Alan King, Rich Little, Ricardo Montalban, John Forsythe, along with musical groups and sports personalities. Funds raised on the telethon go to support research and commun ity services for cerebral palsy, the -disabling condition affecting Wo,- “ 000 American men, women and children and occurring in some 10,000 newborn babies annually. The Charlotte Office of Cerebral Palsy is the local recipient of the funds raised. Seventy-five percent of the proceeds remain in the Piedmont area for support of the agency’s services here, with twenty-five percent going to the national organization for research and national services. WSOC-TV, Channel Nine is em barking on an extensive campaign designed to stimulate local interest through special events, recruit ment of volunteers to work on the telethon, and publicity efforts.
