....And Travel And Competition Nikki Davis’ Summer Included Glamour By Loretta Man ago Post Staff Writer When school starts this fall most students will have wondrous tales of their summer adventures to talk about. Include Nikki Davis in that crowd. But it won’t be summer camp or a visit to grandma’s that Nikki will be discussing. ner summer included episodes of glamour, tra vel and competition being a state representative in the American Beauty pageant. Proclaimed “Little Miss North Carolina’’ Miss Davis will represent the State in the national com petition during the Labor Day weekend. Competition will be held in Hollywood, California. Local competition for the American Beauty pageant was recently held at the Sheraton Center. More surprising to Miss Davis than the fact that she won *e State contest was the ct that she was in the pageant at all. “I had no idea that 1 would be in the contest. When I found out about it my mother had already en tered me,” reflected Miss Davis. Nikki Davis .Beauty Pageant winner + In spite of the initial surprise Miss Davis obvi ously encountered no pro blems at the contest. She was judged on the basis of beauty, poise and person ality and in the final ana lysis she came out the winner. Coincidentallywin ning happened to be Miss Davis’ favorite part of the pageant. For her efforts she was rewarded with a trophy, a crown and a sash. In the national competition Miss Davis has the chance to win over $10,000 in prizes. Dorothy Height, president of the National Council of Negro Women recently met President Reagan. The President com plimented the organization for its al liance of voiunteerism and cited two of the National Council of Negro Women’s programs, "Operation Cope” and the National Collaboration for Children and Youth. Because of the organization’s sensitivity to the needs of the under-_ privileged and disadvantaged, President Reagan commented, "The Oval Office will always be open to Dorothy Height and the members of the National Coun cil of Negro Women." Dalton Village Schedules First “Fund Day” On Saturday, August 20, 3-8 p.m. the Dalton ge Residents’ Organ ization will hold its first Fun Day. y Dalton Village is a 300 unit community where 1,181 people reside. It is located in southwest Char lotte at 3050 Clanton Rd. The Residents' Organiza tion is sponsoring this event to show community pride and bring the com munity closer together. Softball games, music and food including fish Cried in the “ol’ wash pot” are ingredients which will make this day one to re member. Human services agen cies such as the Health Department, and Neigh borhood Centers have con sented to set up booths to inform area residents of their services. The American Beauty pageant, a five year old contest, caters to girls ages 2-14. Family Reunion During the weekend of July 1-2, descendents of Ben and Jane Moore (de ceased) united at the Sheraton Center Hotel The third through the sixth generations were present. Family members came from Maryland, Virginia, Florida, Indiana, North and South Carolina for this affair Charlottean Theodora H. Washington was elected as National President; Betty J.
