Hunt Recognizes Significance Of Black Participants ■-*—I i-— •**-1 Stating be recognizes the significance of Mack parti cipation in the 1964 elec tions, Jim Hunt announced the appointment of five blacks to his campaign staff. They are: Geoffrey Simmons, campaign depu ty director; Agnes Smith, campaign assistant fi-. nance director; Pierre Melvin, acting director of campaign computer opera tions; Marie Robinson, campaign data entry spe cialist; R. Johnathan Charleston, assistant to de puty director. Though he is getting blacks involved in the se natorial race, Hunt hadn’t indicated what kind of par ticipation can be expected if he wins the seat to represent the state in Washington. More individuals as well as organizations need to join the Kappa Alpha Psi Fraternity and their decla ration against Linda Cha vez. Cha vez has been ap pointed to fulfill the responsibilities of the di rector of the U.S. Com mission on Civil Rights. Her insensitivity, how ever, has led her to make statements indicating the economic and social dis advantage among minor ities are not necessarily the result of discrimina tion, according to the Kappas. “She believes the government has no obliga tion to make college af fordable for minority stu dents,” stated the Kappas’ Grand Polemarch, Robert L.
