Committee To Discuss Beatties Ford Road’s Future i rnrceen residents or du siness people in the area of Beatties Ford Rd. make up the Study Group which is now in the process of plan ning for the future of Beatties Ford Rd. and the areas around it. Jack Daniels of the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Planning Commission, stated that the Study Group has been meeting every other week since January. “It usually takes about six months to complete the plans. This week we will talk about the Market Ana lysis involving the busi nesses on Beatties Ford Rd. We will deal with suggestions to improve the Beatties Ford quarter and discuss the streetscape plan to beautify the area.” The meeting will be held at University Park Bap tist Church, 2348 Keller Ave., 7:30 p.m., Thursday, May 31. The public is cor dially invited to these meetings to listen and — learn what is being planned . for their area. Sometime in June, according to Daniels, there will be an open hearing. Residents and lo cal merchants can then express their opinions. “About 10 other small area plans have been sub mitted to the Planning Commission and the City Council. Each has been approved with very little changes,” stated Daniels. The planning study of the Beatties Ford Rd. area should be completed by July, Daniels concluded. .Barrett S. Whitener is a Phi Beta Kappa graduate of the Uni versity of N.C. at Chapel Hill and he obtained an M.A. in Film Studies at the University of East Angila in England. Alumni members and friends worked hard to make this program' a suc cess. The proceeds will be used for scholarships for students attending Win ston-Salem State Univer sity. Savings Bonds, which at maturity will be worth $100, $75 and $50, were awarded to the top three winners. First place win ner was Thero Gilbert Spears, II, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thero Spears; se cond place winner was Jessica Parker, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Goldwyn Parker; and third place winner was Shadonia C. Pagan, daughter of Ms. Teresa Pagan and Mr. Clifton Jones. Other con testants were Brian Bel ton, son of Ms. Patricia Belton and Mr. Brian Gaines; Benita Janelle James, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Vincent James; Chandra McGee, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas McGee; Karen Shaonne Smith, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Smith; and Faith Clarissa Spivey, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. William Spivey Jr. Sweat shirts with the WSSU emblem were presented to each contestant as a token of-appreciation...
