Page 2S - THE CHARLOTTE POST - Thursday, September 29, 1988 Davis Opens Child Care Referral Service By LORA VANDERHAIX Lifestyles Editor Dianna Davis, owner of Baby Love, is helping with the grow ing problem of finding quality child care. Baby Love is a child care refer red service located at the E^st- way Executive Office Building, 3125 Eastway Drive. "I started the business about a year ago because I saw an in creasing need for this type of service," said Davis. Baby Love provides parents with information on in-home care, full and part-time sitters and temporary or permanent child care services. "We do not appoint a parent with a sitter we simply give the information to the parent in re spect to what they are looking for. If they are looking for some one in a particular neighbor hood or with a certain educa tional background, we can provide that for them. The par ent makes the decision as to who will keep their child." A yearly fee of $25 is charged for using the service. That charge will Increase to about $40 if special services are re quired. "We try to send the same sitter to a home so that the children will have a sense of security." Baby Love also provides nan nies. "Some people don't realize that nannies are not house keepers. If someone can afford a nanny they usually have a but ler and a maid," said Davis. The business offers many em ployment opportunities for those Interested in becoming sitters. Housewives, students Pli«t«/CM.ViN FER0U8ON and retirees make up the major ity of the sitters. North Carolina law says that a person can keep up to two chil dren, other than their own, in thetr home without being regis tered. A registered day care home can keep up to five chil dren in the home. "There is a $10 yearly fee for a person to list with our service. The babysitter and the parent make arrangements concerning the hourly or dally rates. There are lots of opportunities for a person to make money if they decide to keep children in their home," she added. The service is especially help ful to people who have recently move to Charlotte and sur rounding areas. Persons who work spilt shifts or a night shift have also found this service very helpful. Dianna and her husband, Wil liam, are the parents of a 4- month-old daughter, Rellur Me- Ussa and they are aware of the needs and concerns of other parents. "I know how hard it is to func tion when you're worried about the well being of your child," she said. Davis, 28, is a native Charlot- tean and she attended Carolina School of Broadcasting after high school. She has also taken classes at CPCC and received computer training from Broad way and Seymore . Prior to starting the business she worked at Piedmont Natural Gas, White Business Machine, WGIV Radio and the Radisson Plaza Hotel. Davis currently has two part- time employees but she will be expanding in the near future.
