Look To The Post For Your Answers. By M.L.LaNey Post Entertainment Editor Charlotte has never been con sidered a very literary city, but a recent publication may change that. Editor Mary Norton Kratt has compiled the works of Charlot- teans who know how to make their mark with stories, poetry and dramatic portrayals. Included in this new work, "The Imaginative Spirit," are the works of four outstanding black writers: Asa Paschal Ashanti, Karen Jones-Meadows, T.J. Reddy and the late Diane Oliver. Ashanti has won the Gwendo lyn Brooks Award from Black World for his poetry. He has drawn on his experiences as a missionary with the Rev. Sun Myung Moon and used the pov erty of his hometown. New York as a backdrop. Karen Jones-Meadows is origi nally from the Bronx, N.Y. She has been an actress and has con tributed four plays to the stage. She likens her writing to "something positive about my people." Her most noted work is the play, 'Tapman." T.J. Reddy is a noted activist turned poet and visual artist. His work Is made up of protest against racial injustice and the lauding of the Motherland, Afri ca Finally, the late Diane Oliver was just proving that she was to be a great short story writer. Un fortunately, she was killed be fore she could establish her re putation. This book is a sampling of what Charlotte's black commu nity has contributed to the com munity at large. From this per spective, there has to be more and better things ahead if this is any indication. The book is pub lished through the Library of Charlotte and Mecklenburg Coimty. NEED CREDIT?
