ny In Charlotte to call for any
client’s architectural design
and/or construction needs. Now
It's fast becoming the major
black-owned firm Involved In
the field of land development.
PPMC's President, Anthony
Hunt, relocated the 10-year-old
full service construction compa
ny, from Houston, Tx., to Char
lotte In 1988. Since then the
company has maintained Its re
putation for top quality work In
diversified services which In
clude architectural design, gen
eral construction/construction
management.
The company Is licensed to
construct both residential and
commercial projects. Addition
ally. It offers subcontracting
services encompassing such dis
ciplines as masonry, electrical,
plumbing, mechanical (heating
& air), sheetrock, carpentry, etc.
In Houston, PPMC was pri
marily Involved with public
works contracts. Institutional
and government contracts. The
company also had a number of
contracts with the Houston Met
ropolitan Transit Authority
(METRO). NASA and the City of
Houston, to name a few projects.
It was that successful track
record that helped launch PPMC
In Charlotte.
During Its two years of opera
tion In the city, PPMC has
worked on such projects 'as the
Cummings Retail Facility on
Beatties Ford Road, an approxi
mately 6,000 square foot mini
shopping center; a ten-unit, sin
gle-story, apartment complex at
2526 Eastway Drive; an 18-unlt,
two-story, apartment complex
at 401 Tom Hunter Road; and the
13-unlt, two-story Craig Avenue
Apartment Complex.
PPMC Is also working on sev
eral custom-designed residences
and office facilities. The compa
ny has worked with the City of
Charlotte’s engineering depart
ment and Mecklenburg County.
However, at this point In the
company's operations. Its presi
dent Is most excited by the new
direction In which he's steering
PPMC. 'The next step for a full-
service construction company Is
to move Into development," ex
plains Hunt. "After mastering
the design/construction compo
nents, we feel prepared to move
Into land development."
Land development Is an area
Hunt Is keen on particularly be
cause of the lack of black partic
ipation In this lucrative field.

assist the client In leasing or
selling the developed facility for
profit.
"African-Americans reap mar

land. If they develop the land
themselves, they can realize
greater returns," says Hunt.
