Guy Wayne, 28, who has been in retail management with Starbucks for two years said, “when people come to our store they can expect high quality coffee, various coffee beans, espresso beverages and qusdity service.” He said they have a “just say Yes,” attitude and they stand by it. Wayne, who is known as a “barista”(an Italian name for a coffee bartender) says,” We don’t have flavored beans, but the company prefers to flavor its coffee the traditional Italian way by adding flavored syrup to the coffee.” ’They buy the highest quality arabica beans in the world from different coffee growing countries. “We have Central American coffee from Guatemala, Costa Rica, and Mexico,” Wayne said. They also have Pacific coffee from Indonesia and Java and African coffee from Ethiopia Guy Wayne, a newly trained coffee “barista” (Italian for bar tender), looks over an order for a cool cup of iced mocha at the brand new Starbucks Coffee Store Uptown at Charlotte Plaza and Kenya. The Starbucks in the Overstreet Mall offers its cus tomers variety. “We rotate through the different whole bean coffee that we carry, but we usually sell one decaf feinated coffee and one caffi- nated blend as our coffee of the day - everyday. Sometimes it may be the house blend, the Costa Rica coffee or the Kenya coffee.” Starbucks even has seasonal coffee. “We have a special cof fee for Christmas called “Christmas Blend,’” Wayne said. “There is always a fea ture coffee.” The coffee is served in 12 and 16 ounce sizes and the costs start at $1.35 per serv ing. Starbucks offers regular drip coffee as well as Espressos like Macchiato and Con Panna. Starbucks held its grand opening for the Overstreet Mall shop last Friday and part of the proceeds went to Charlotte's Loaves and Fishes Program, an emergency food pantry that serves families in need. “We are very involved in the communities where we do business,” Wayne said. “Our mission in Starbucks is to con tribute positively to our com munities and our environ ment. “We do things such as ‘Green Sweeps’ where we get together and clean up areas in the com munity.” Starbucks made a pledge that it will donate any Nails important to stylish look Continued from 9A but they are not for everyone. You have to take into consid eration your lifestyle. Just because its pretty, doesn’t mean that its right,” Hubbard said. “Acrylic is not helping the natural nail to become any stronger, it is just helping them not to break. Anytime you apply anything on top of the nail, such as acrylic or a gel, it is going to dehydrate the nail.” Hubbard recommends get ting the actual acrylic changed every four to five months because it will start to look old and like anything, it is not going to last forever. She said to look at the nail when you have the product on and if you notice any type of discoloration, then you might want to reconsider and give your nails a rest. The treatment portion for natural nails is to buy a polish or a base coat that you can use at home. Hubbard said that it is important to be consistent with the products and use the same top coat and basecoat polish. “These products were designed to be used together,” she said. Filing the nail is important. “I don’t recommend the emory board files because they treat your nails like sandpaper and all it does is tear your nails. You need a fine grit file. ” “With acrylic nails, the goal is to have the nail look as nat ural as possible,” Hubbard said. Exercise priority to government Continued from page 9A Americans to exercise. It will require money that might have to be diverted from other health campaigns, he said. As for corporate funding. Dishman is dubious, since fit ness professionals such as aer obics instructors typically work by themselves, not as part of a wealthy corporation. And companies that sell health equipment would be more interested in sales than in having people choose an exercise routine and sticking with it, he said. “It could well be that things continue on as usual after there’s a flurry of attention,” Dishman said.
