Kennedy, the daughter of Ray Kennedy, chief executive and president of APD, earned a degree in business management at Howard University in 2006. After graduation, she spent nearly a year with a family in Puerto Rico to learn Spanish and become more familiar with Latin culture. • Henry Williams and Stephanie Ready have been named to the Charlotte Bobcats tele vision broad cast team for the 2007-08 NBA season. Williams, a U N C Charlotte graduate, will begin his first full season as color analyst after splitting time with the radio broad cast team last year. Ready, a Coppin State University graduate, will be the side line reporter for the fourth straight sea son. Ready, the first woman to coach a professional men's basketball team, also worked the sidelines for TNT during the NBA play offs. Williams and Ready will join play by play announcer Steve Martin, who was named to the position last week. • Charlotte native Charlie Sifford will have a golf award named in his honor. Sifford, the first African American to compete on the PGA Tour and be inducted into the World Golf Hall of Fame, will be honored at the eighth annual Original Tee Golf Classic at the Wild Turkey Golf Club in Hamburg, N.J. Organizers will name its highest achievement the Charles Sifford True Original Award. Over the past year, the Guilford County Task Force to End Homelessness, along with numerous community volunteers, have spent hun dreds of hours gathering data on homelessness in Guilford County and reviewing ten year plans that are currently used in other communities across the nation. Town hall meetings and focus groups were held, sur veys were conducted, and homeless individuals were interviewed throughout the Task Force's process. According to the Task Force, there are 300 other communities committed to tackling homelessness, including New York, Denver, San Francisco, Portland, Asheville and Raleigh. The Ten Year Plan to End Chronic Homelessness in Guilford County "has all of the ingredients of the plans that are making a difference in other cities,! He studied at the University of Seville in Spain last fall through Hampden-Sydney's study abroad program. Smith is the son of Murletta Murcer of Charlotte. • Danielle Suswell, Asia Jani and Alexandra King of Charlotte each are Burger King Scholars. The students are among 610 high school seniors to earn $1,000 scholarships in recognition of their academ ic achievements. Suswell is a West Mecklenburg High School graduate, while Jani graduated Harding University High and King graduated Hopewell High. • Derrick A. Thompson, Shanita A. Washington and Ying Zhang of Charlotte were among 442 seniors to graduate Davidson College on May 20. Zhiang is the daughter of Jioan X. and Grace Zie. She is a 2003 Harding University High School graduate. Zhiang graduated cum laude with a degree in biolo gy and minored in Chinese. Washington is the daugh ter of Edward and Terri Baldwin and a graduate of Vance High.
