New York, April 28. A panic.
and brave rescues marked the ear
ly morning fire that destroyed the
paper warehouse at lf9 Blcecker
street. Three itauans. are mistung
and it is believed they are burned
to death. Nearly two thousand
occupants of the cheap hotel
were driven into the streets in
their night clothes. For a time
the entire congested district was
threatened. The fire was caused
by an explosion which is now be
ing investigated by the fire mar
shal. When the titvmra smashed
the door of the burning building,
hundreds of rats rushed into hue
street and policemen began killing
them with clubs.
