Report of Street Committee for the month of December shows that on account of bad weather during the month, but very little work baa been done. A plank sidewalk c been laid to the North. Durham Graded School and also one to the Edgemont School. The balance of the time has been consumed in gen eral Btreet work. Report of Light Committee for December shows that with the ex eeption ot me time trie lights were out, the lights have given general satisfaction, lour committee would recommend that' the globes to all ights now to use by the city be cleaned and kept so by the Durham 1 faction Company. This being done, the lights will give better service and more eatuaotion. I he follow ing ngots have been placed since last report: Oae light in Edgemont, east of Norfolk & Western li. R ; one light on Milton Avenue, where Wilkerson Avenue crosses said street. Keport on Cemetery lor the pant month shows that there were 18 deaths in the city. 8 whites and 10 colored. Report of Chief of Police for De cember Bhows that 2 U arrests were made during the month, for the fol- o wing offences: Drunkenness, 113: assault and battery, 32; allowing stock to run at large, 1; leaving horse on street unhitched, 3; bois terous cursing, 4; refusing to pay hack fare, 1; disturbing the peace, 6; rolling wheelbarrow on sidewalk, 2; larceny, 14; riding bicycle on sidewalk, 1; blocking sidewalk with wagon, 1; soliciting trade at passen ger train, 3; assault and battery with deadly weapon, v; minor enter ing bar room, 3; throwing stones on streets, 2; malicious injury to prop erty, 1; committing a nuisance, 1; gambling, 3; shooting fireworks in the forbidden territory of the city, 11; jumping on fire wagon coming from fire, 3; shooting pistol in the city, 1 ; carrying concealed weapon, 1. s Fines and costs for the month, $400.30. Special taxes collected, $4,018. Report of Chief of Fire Depart ment shows one alarm of tire for the month of December. Petitions for electric lights to be located on the corner of Burch and Milton Avenues, and one at the in tersection of Gregdon and Pettigrew streets, were read, and, on motion, it was ordered that the petitions be referred to the light committee. On motion it was ordered that Section 1, Chapter 14, of City Ordi nances, be amended by adding to said section the following: "That whenever application for a death certificate shall be made to the city health officer, he shall have full power and authority to investigate the cause of death in all such cases and shall not make such certificate until he is fully satisfied as to the cause of death." - On motion it was ordered that the bond of Leo D. Belvin, assistant police, in the sum of $500, be ac cepted. ' On motion it was ordered that a sidewalk of vitrified brick be laid from the corner of Mangum and Holloway streets on the north side of Holloway street to Cleveland street. Said work to be done in accordance with charter and ordi nances of the city governing same. m t m Went Over to the Funeral. F. D. Hudson, of this city, and Mr. and Mrs. Jack Pope, of this county, went over on the 9:50 train this morning to Chapel Hill to at tend the funeral of R. J. Emerson, which took place there this after noon. A number of relatives and friends went over by private convey ance. I. E. The concert to be given by Polk Miller, under the -auspices' of the Durham ,lodge Kights of Pythiaa, will take place at the Conservatory of Musio tomorrow evening Tickets are on sale at oneed s drugstore.
