Lt. William A. Hashe, of Ft HQCnox, Kentucky, has been spend ing a few days with relatives at Piney Creek. Mrs. Fred Dancy is ill with pneumonia at North Wilkesboro. Mr and Mrs. Clay Sheets re turned from a visit to Georgia. Mrs. Lelia Fender and son, Robert, spent the week end vi siting in Washington, D. C. Mr. and Mrs. Duke Bledsoe, Mr. and Mrs. Paul Joines, Mr. and Mrs. Dave Higgins are spend ing the week in Maryland. Mr. Doughton Perry made a business trip to Roanoke, Tues day. Wade Choate and Judy Womble are business visitors in Jack sonville, N. C. this week Miss Opal Nichols is visiting relatives in West Jefferson this week. Miss Bernice Jarvis of Wash ington, D. C. is spending this week visiting relatives here. Mrs. W. F. Joines had as her Sunday dinner guests: Mr. and Mrs. Glenn Truitt of Vox; Mr. and Mrs. John Joines, and sons, Alvin C. and Thomas, near Trap Hill; also, T. A. Edwards of Vox. Other guests during the evening included: Mr. and Mrs. Coy Joines end son, Mr. and Mrs. Astor Joines* Mr. and Mrs. Gail Sexton, of Baltimore, Maryland; Mr. and Mrs. Ray Joines, and children, Eula Fay and Bobby Ray. Mrs. Mitchel Rector is seriously ill in- Galax hospital. Mrs. Stella Mae Taylor, who has been critically ill in Hugh Chatham Memorial hospital, is improving. Miss Eleanor Kennedy spent the week end with, Misses Pauline and Jane Warden. Mrs. F. Miller was in town, last Thursday. Mrs. Stamper was called to Beckley, West Virginia, Friday, on account of severe illness of her niece. Mrs. Jane Joines spent one day last week in Elkin. Mrs. Russell Barr and chil dren, and Mr. W. B. Reeves, of West. Jefferson, were recent visitors of Mr, and Mrs. B. G. Reeves. Mrs. Robert Andrews visited her father, S. C. Richardson, in Elkin hospital, Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Gene Blevins and son have returned to then home in North East, Maryland, after visiting his mother, Mrs. Rose Blevins. Walker and children went to Winstpn Salem, Monday. Mrs. Walker will go from there to visit her mother, in La Grange, who is seriously ill. Miss Mildred Wagoner is home from Mountain Park where she taught in the high school. Revj and Mrs. John Evans, of Piney Creek, visited in Sparta one day last week. Mr. and Mrs. Dan Thompson arrived here Friday to spend a few days. They were guests of Mrs. C. A. Reeves, Dr. and Mrs. T. R. Burgess during the week end. Dr. and Mrs. N. D. Fox visited in Galax, Sunday. Mrs. R. V. Thompson has re turned home after spending sometime with her husband in Savannah, Georgia. Glenn Miller visited friends at Laurel Springs last week. Robert Andrews, of Kings port, Tennessee visited his moth er, Mrs. S. A. Andrews last week end. J. H. Doughton spent a few days here last week. S. C. Richardson was taken to Elkin Memorial hospital last Fri day for treatment. Mrs. Rich ardson remained with him. Miss Jacquelyn Faircloth spent last week with her aunt, Mrs. Dean Taylor. Mr. and Mrs. H. W. Spaugh of Winston-Salem, were guests of Mrs. T. J. Carson last Sun day. Mr. George W. Edwards of Winston-Salem, spent the week end with Mr. R. G. Warden. Mrs. Ada Pruitt and Mrs. Rose Blevins visited friends at Laurel Springs during the week end. Mrs. Ellen Parks returned home Sunday after spending the winter in Winston-Salem with her sister, Mrs. H. W. Spaugh. She will spend a few weeks with Mrs. T. J. Carson. Mrs. R D. Tomkins, and daugh ter, Jackie, also Miss Aliens Blevins visited, Mr. and Mrs. Maynard Landreth, Saturday. Mrs. Clay Joines is visiting her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Sidney Miller, of Laurel Springs. Mrs. E. L. Spurlin is slowly im proving from a recent illness. Mr. and Mrs. E. J. Richardson, Jr., and small daughter, Pamela, spent Sunday with, Mr. and Mrs. Ralph B. Cheek. Mrs. M. A. Goodman, Sr., Miss Lessie Goodman and Mrs. M. A. Goodman, Jr., of Morganton, at tended the graduation exercise at the Sparta Baptist church on Thursday night. Mr. and Mrs. R. R. Weems, of Westpoint, Mississippi, are ex pecting to arrive tomorrow for a visit with Mrs. C. A. Reeves. Upon their return to Mississippi, they will be accompanied by Mr. and Mrs. Dan Thompson who have been visiting friends and relatives here. Mrs. Mable Brooks made a business trip to Galax, Monday. O. Joines, Mrs. F. G. Walker and Mrs. R. E. Richardson. Resolutions 6f respect for Miss Jennie Hudson, who died here last week, were prepared and read. Serving on the resolutions this week with their parents, Mr. and Mrs. K. G. Jarvis. Mrs. E. B. Eldridge and Bryan Eldridge are visiting Mrs. John D. Chalk, Jr., in Rockingham, this week.
