Hello there! Today I’m in Raleigh and b r-r-r, it’s cold outside. I did not check the temp, but I know it has gone down. You know, there is nothing in the world like beautiful, bountiful Brunswick. I like to go places, but I love more to return home. How about you? While traveling up to Raleigh, we always look at the crops and beautiful landscaping. The flowers are just beautiful. The crops are coming through and we see folks just enjoying the out doors. And farmers, don’t forget that you must have a “slow moving vehicle” sign on the back of your tractor or combine when you move it on the highway this year. The Farm Bureau office has them for cost. This is a State law now and we must comply. It is for our safety as well as the motorists? The signs enables one to see a tractor for a longer distance down the road, and you can even see it with the sun glaring in your eyes. The bright colors reads DANGER or SLOW. Think about it. Did you enjoy the traditional May Pole Dance this season? The wonderful outdoors brings ones mind to the far off islands and maybe Hawaii. For our recipe-loving friends we have Aloha Burgers. This is indeed delicious, too. one 9 ounce can pineapple slices 1 pound ground beef 1 teaspoon salt Dash pepper 1 recipe Island Sauce Drain pineapple, reserving two tablespoons syrup for sauce. Season meat with salt and pepper. Press a scant tablespoon of meat into center of each pineapple slice overlapping meat on pineapple around center on both sides of slice so meat won’t fall out while cooking. Shape remaining meat in four patties, slightly larger in diameter than the pineapple; broil burgers on grill over hot coals 12 to 15 minutes, turning once. Broil meat-filled pineapple slices, turning carefully and brushing with Island Sauce till meat is done and pineapple glazed. To assemble, place each burger atop a bun half or slice or toast. Top with pineapple burger. Peg with a kabob of cherry, tomato and green olive. Island Sauce: Mix reserved pineapple syrup, Vfe cup catsup, V.« cup brown sugar two teaspoons Wor cestershire sauce, and a few drops liquid smoke; heat to boiling. For cooking outdoors, this is great! As Pearl Bailey’s first assignment as President Nixon’s special Ambassador of Love, Pearl was startled at not gaining the attention of her bubble-gum popping audience. This audience was from the Washington Cardozo High School. Her young listeners had trouble identifying with the famous singer the black knicker suit. Her message just didn’t sink in, even the jokes fell flat that night. Better luck next time, Pearl. We happen to like Pearl singing, but the shows just don’t have it... Don’t forget the seafood meeting at the Agriculture Extension Building, Tuesday, at 8 p.m. This is very im portant for the seafood in dustry in Brunswick County. See you next weeek!
