Leopard Spots By Leslie Zachary The BSCH football team is now a member of a conference. Last Monday football coach Irvin Smith attended a meeting where it was voted to include the BCSH football team in the Tri County Conference. This conference also includes Acme-Delco, Union, North Duplin, Roseboro - Salemburg, Hobbton and Midway. BCSH was added to the Tri - County Conference with slight reservations, according to Mr. Smith. The conference author'** ;s were concerned about the lack of facilities at BCSH. Some of ihe facilities Southport lacks are dressing rooms, a bathroom at the football field and especially an adequate amount of bleachers, particularly ones on the side where the visitors have to sit. “We are trying to improve our facilities,” stated Coach Smith, “but it will take time. We have already done a great deal of work on the field itself.” Mr. Smith is delighted about being accepted into the conference. Being in the conference will make the Southport team eligible for the state tournaments. It will give the players a chance at the All-Conference trophys and will give the school s team more publicity. The only disadvantage to the team will be the long distances that will have to be traveled to some of the games. The 1971-1972 football schedule has already been worked out. It was announced Firday night that J.W. Ingold was selected as the first runner up in the art division of the Golden Star Awards. J.W. was presented a special plaque at the ceremony held in Kenan Hall that evening. Everyone at BCSH is very proud of J.W. and the honor he has brought to BCSH by making such a good showing in this awards program. The BCSH golf team made another win Wednesday of last week. Mac Adams, Horace Collier, Wade Parker, and Mark Switzer participated in the match against players from Inland High School. Horace was low scorer in this match with 94, Mac shot 105, Wade and Mark both shot 108. The next golf match will be played against Cape Fear Technical Institute Thursday. It will be played at the Oak Island golf course. BCSH students will be pre-registering this week. Also this week, the annual staff will be preparing its special annual dedication program in which they will present the 1971 “Leopard” to the school. The annuals are expected in next week. The Junior - Senior Prom was quite a success last Friday night. Everyone at the prom seemed to enjoy himself. Even our principal, Mr. E.L. Pettiford, got into the spirit of things and danced with some of the young ladies present. The Seniors are now getting ready to mail graduation in vitations and are looking forward to die time when graduation practice will begin. Some BCSH Seniors, such as Regina White, are not only excited about graduating from high school, but are also really looking forward to their freshmen year in college. Regina will be attending Winston - Salem State College this fall. 1971 -72 FOOTBALL SCHEDULE Sept. 3 Sept. 9 Sept. 17 Sept. 24 Tar Heel Hallsboro Acme Delco Roseboro Salemburg Away Away Home Home Oct. 1 Oct. 8 Oct. 15 Oct. 22 Oct. 29 Leland Union Midway North Duplin Leland Away Home Away Home Home Nov. 5 Hobbton Away ANNOUNCING Tax Service Now Compiling New Client List 618 N. The Association was able to raise approximately $1,800 during its first season. The money was used to fully suit out two teams, jerseys for two younger teams, footballs and in surance. Next year the Association hopes to have several more projects to cover the cost of the leagues’ expansion. The goal for the Association was to provide wholesome recreation and adult leadership for boys and girls between die ages of 8 and 14 years. The boys played football while the girls cheered. No child was turned down because of financial reasons and every child was able to play in every game. Because the Association wanted this to be a com munity sponsored project, no big business was asked to sponsor a team. All the money came from small donations and every team had equal equipment. Permanent office space was donated by the owner of the Goodman Building. The association now has a per manent place to store r 1 PRICES SUPERETTE 100 FREE!!
