The Randolph Bulletin. PUBLISHED EVERY THURSDAY. PRICE ONE DOLLAR A YEAR U. S. HAYES, Editor, E. A. WOODDELL, Publisher. Entered as second-class matter June 2nd, 1905, at the post office at Ashe boro, N. C, under the act of Congress of March 3rd 1879. Now is the time for the farmer to plan for their summer work. The mistakes of last year should be eliminated this year. There is no excuse for falling into the same blunder this year that you got into last. If you did not keep a record last year begin now and keep a complete diary of your work, weather conditions, when you did certain work and the result. A farmer should also keep a careful record of his out lay and his income. This is merely a matter of business. A few farmers we know have such records as we are speaking about. The man who has them can more readily compete with the other fellow because he does his work intelligently. The time when haphazard methods of farming will succeed has gone and the agricultural people must now use their brains. This puts the profession on a higher level than formerly. Brother farmer get; your work started right this j year. i - i Four persons haying already! announced their candidacy for j the Democratic nomination for ; congress m the sixth district and , the convention over five months ! off. Yet Democrats do not want ! office. Lexington North State, j It is as natural for a democrat : to aspire to office as it is for a ; young duck to chase a June bug. j They just hunger and thii-st after ' office just any old office will do j anything from a road overseer j to the presidency. Since the federal lunch counter is already j crowded, the democrats must I content themselves by taking! ,w i, n uat liicj vail gciliuiii Liicoiaic and counties, and from now on till the primaries and conventions are over, the old chronic office seekers will be bobbing up until the whole state will look like a j political hotbed planted in mush- j iuum. njuuuuiii ummuem- crats (we mean the leaders and Lilian xi y pum-ii-icuia ; v aui uiijac : . -i i j-t ii c e uecLessiL v r nan;i to confine youthful offenders against the law has been empha sized in Greensboro. A boy four teen years old, charged with for gery, had to be sent to a cell along with all kinds of criminals. Punishing a criminal is one thing, , and saving a boy is another. North Carolina is slow about finding this out. Weeklv Tar Heel. The neccessity for having a state reform school to which boys convicted of crime may be sent is emphasized at nearly every term of superior court held in the state. Many boys are led astray by associating themselves with bad company and commit offences for which they must be punished. Under present condi tions they must be confined in jail, put on the chain gang along with colored men and hardened criminals, or be sent to the pen itentiary. After a boy has serv ed a term on the chain gang or in the penitentiary, he loses his self respect and all hope of ever becoming a respected citizen is gone. If these youthful offend- ers were put under restraint and at the same time instructed and encouraged in leading a better life, they might be reclaimed and become useful, christian citizens. Our boys should be saved from falling if possible, but if they do fall, they should be rescued and given christian training instead of placing them under cruel boss es, along with thieves and mur derers. Pinesalve is the best Salve for sores, burns, boils, tetter, ec zema, skin diseases and piles. Sold by Ashboro Drug Co. Experiments conducted by the United States Geological Survey have shown that a ton of bitumin ous coal converted into gas and used in a gas engine will produce nearly three times as much energy as the same coal would produce, if burned under a steam boiler. The day is not far distant when all coal will be turned into power at the pit's mouth. It will be transported only in the form of gas through pipe lines or as electric energy over insulated copper wires. The season of Indigestion is now at hand. Ring's Dyspepsia Tablets relieve indigestion, and correct all stomach0 dis6rji?r. Sold by Ashboro Drug Co. i "V. V WASHINGTON ENTOMBED. George Town, Dec. 20. On Wednesday last, the mortal part of WASHINGTON the Great the Father of his Country and the Friend of man, was consign ed to the tomb, with solemn hon ors and funeral pomp. A multitude of persons assem bled from many miles round, at Mount Vernon, the choice abode and last residence of the illustri ous chief. There were the groves the spacious avenues, the beau tif ul and sublime scenes, the no-1 ble mansion but, alas! the au gust inhabitant teas now no more. That great soul was gone. His mortal part was there indeed; but ah! how affecting! how aw ful the spectacle of such worth and greatness, thus, to mortal eyes, fallen! Yes! fallen! fallen! In the long and lofty Portico, where oft the Hero walked in all his glory, now lay the shrouded corpse. The countenance still composed and serene, seemed to depress the dignity of the spirit, which lately dwelt in that life less form. There those who paid the last sad honors to the bene factor of his country, took an impressive a farewell view. On the ornament, at the head of the coffin, was inscribed Surge ad Judicum about the middle of the coffin, gloria deo and on the silver plate, GENERAL GEORGE WASHINGTON, Departed this life on the 14th December, 1799, JEt. 68. Between three and four o'clock, the sound of artillery from a vessel in the ri firing minute . . ' & Suns- awoke afresh our solemn sorrow the corpse was moved a band of music with mournful melody melted the soul into all the tenderness of woe. The procession was formed and moved on in the following order: Cavalry, Infantry, - With arms reversed Guard, Music, Clergy, The General's horse, with his saddle, holsters, and pistols. Cols. s Simms, Ramsay, Payne, c2 i Cols, i-a Gilpin, I Marsteller, Little, o Mourners, Masonic Brethren, Citizens orrivaA i . ., , .. i - In y-x--f- r w n-t- In n A ATrn A- ;at the bottom of the elevated lawn, on the banks of the Potom ac, wnere tne iamily vault is alaced.he cavfry halted,, the Mount and formed their lines the Clergy, the Masonic Broth ers, and the Citizens, descended to the Vault, and the funeral service of the Church was per formed. The firing was repeat ed from the vessel in the river, and the sounds echoed from the woods and hills around.. Three general discharges by the infantry the cavalry, and 11 pieces of artillery, which lin ed the banks of the Potomac back of the Vault, paid the last tribute to the entombed Commander-in-Chief of the Armies of the United States and to the departed Hero. The sun was now setting. Alas! the son of glory was set forever. No the name of WASHINGTON the American President and General will triumph over Death! The un clouded brightness of his Glory willilluminate the future ages! (This beautiful account of the burial of Washington is taken from the Ulster County Gazette, published at Kingston N. Y. Jan j 4th, 1800. The original copy of the Gazette is on file in the Bul letin office.) THE OLD TIME WAY. Our Grandmothers gave us pow ders and teas because they knew methods. In this age of progress : and discovery, nicely coated, corn- pressed tablets are fast superced ing the old time powders and teas. Rydale's Liver tablets are compressed chocolate coated tab lets, easy to swallow, pleasant in effect, always reliable. They contain ingredients that cannot be used in powder or teas. In gredients that have an effect up on the liver that is never obtain ed from the so called liver pow ders etc. A trial will prove their merits. Asheboro Drug Co. Dear Mother. ' "While out strolling last even ing," says a reporter, I passed a house from which emanated the inspiring strains of a charm ing young lady. The only words the reporter caught from the song were something about "dear mother." Passing on and turning down a side street the reporter saw through the kitch en window the dear mother with her arms buried almost to the elbow in a pan of dough, the sweat streaming down her wrin kled face and the hot range en veloping her. She was singing: "We'll Work Till Jesus. Comes." -Ex. WHAT HARM OUR THOUGHTS MAY DO. We should be appalled if we could see pass before us, in vivid panorama, the wrecks caused in a lifetime by cruel thought. A stab here, a thrust there, a malic ious sarcasm, bitter irony, ungen erous criticism, a jealous, envious or revengeful thought, hatred and anger are all going out constant ly from many a mind on deadly missions. Servants have actually been made dishonest by other persons Perpetually holding the suspicion ! that they were dishonest. This thought suggests dishonesty to the suspected perhaps for the first time, and being constantly hoed takes root and grows, and bears the fruit of theft. The old proverb, "If you have the name, you might as well have the game' ' is put into action many times. It is simply cruel to hold a sus picious thought of another until you have positive proof. That other person's mind is sacred; you have no right to invade it with your miserable thougts and pictures of suspicion. Many people scatter fear thoughts, doubt thoughts, failure thoughts wherever they go; and these take root in minds that might otherwise be free from them and therefore happy, confi dent, and successful. Be sure that when you hold an evil, unhealthy, discordant dead ly thought toward another, some thing is wrong in your mind. Learn to radiate joy, not sting ily, not meanly, but generously. Fling out your gladness without reserve. Shed it in the home, on the street, on the car, in the I .-.4-. .-.,- ..,.,.-t-. . --U , . -. sheds its beauty and gives out j its fragrance. When we learn j that love thoughts heal, that they i carry balm to wounds; that thoughts of harmony, of beauty, and of truth always uplift and ennoble; that the opposite carry death and destruction and blight everywhere, we shall learn the secret of right living. Success Magazine. Luckiest Man in Arkansas. "I'm the luckiest man in Ark ansas," writes H. L. Stanley, of Bruno, "since the restoration of my wife's health after five years I of continuous coughing and bleed I ing from the lungs; and I owe my good fortune to the world s greatest medicine, Dr. King's New Discoverv for Consumption. which I know trom experience j will cure consumption if taken in i time, My wife improved with fial; bottle and twoivc bottles l onir-ipted the cure." 'Ck-o cue " worst coughs and colds or money refunded. At Ashboro Drug Co. and Standard Drug Store. 50c and $1.00.- Trial bottle free. All Kinds of Milk. The Wilmington Messenger and other Democratic papers in the State, are finding fault with Governor Glenn. They fear he will hurt his party by going around in this and other States and publicly patting and milking the old Prohibition cow. Glenn has an eye to business. He is preparing for a big political shucking this fall. He knows that while he is making friends with and milking the old Prohi bition cow in the front yard, his lieutenants, J. W. Bailey, Wilm ington Messenger and others, are in the back yards, mountain caves, and dark cellars making friends with and patting and milking the dispensary heifer, saloon bulls and blockading steers. He knows that this fall when all this milk is placed be fore the voters, it will be so mix ed that as one's taste is, so be it unto him. If he is actually a prohibitionist, it will be prohibi tion milk, if he is for a dispen sary, it will be dispensary milk; if for saloons, it will be saloon milk; and if for blockading, it will taste like mountain dew milk. Boys, don't be too bold in your foolery; the people may de tect the flies and flavoring in the milk. Hickory Times-Mercury. Anyone suffering from Kid ney pains, backache, bladder trouble or rheumatism who will take a dose of Pine-ules upon re tiring at night shall be relieved before morning. Sold by Ash boro Drug Co. A number of financiers, includ ing presidents of life insurance companies, bank presidents, United States Senators and oth ers who have engaged in "fren zied finance" and who have lost their fortunes, and whose dishonesty and thefts have been exposed, have died or are dying from bi'oken hearts. But Cassie Chadwick, the immortal Cassie, who astonished the world with her financial antics, still lives and thrives and is able to take in washing. A woman's heart is more flexible than man's. The reason Dr. Dade's Little Liver Pills give perfect satisfact ion is due to their tonic effect on the liver. They never gripe. j Sold by Ashboro Drug Co, PUSH! DON'T HANG ON. Many a man, in a good position to push, forgets to do so and sim ply hangs on. He adds his weight to the burden and ' 'kicks" because things do not move fas ter. It costs less muscular ener gy to hang on than it does to push, but you can't get more money for it unless you cheat somebody. The five dollar man who push es is of more value to a business than the hundred-dollar man who hangs on, but the hundred-dollar man who pushes is worth inn nitely more than twenty times the five-dollar man because of the value of space. A forty thousand horse power engine may drive a boat at twenty knots an hour that forty, thousand hor ses, having the same power, could not move at all and would sink with their very weight. Some men are like some automo bilesit takes all their power to move the machine. Don't attach yourself to any business or any position as a hanger-on. You are never welcome and you never grow. It takes effort to induce growth, and it takes growth to qualify for big ger things. If you fail to exer cise and use your energy, stagnate and become not you only ! useless but diseased. Push!: Push!! Push!!! Don't be satisfl-; ed unless you are pushing every ; pound possible. Help the busi- j ness, and at the same time help yourself by growing stronger with every effort. Ex. A Healing Gospel. The Rev. J. C. Warren, pastor i of Sharon Baptist Church, Belair, It's a Godsend to mankind. It cured me of lame back, stiff joints, and complete physical col lapse. I was so week it took me half an hour to walk a mile. Two bottles of Electric Bitters have made me strong I have just walk ed three miles in 50 minutes and feel like walking three more. It's made a new man of me." Greatest remedy for weakness and all Stomach, Liver and Kid ney complaints. Sold under guarantee at Ashboro Drug Co. and Standard Drug Store. Price 50c. IN MEMORIAM. J. W. Conner, husband of S. J. Conner, was born Feb. 21th, 1836, and died at his home near Spero Nov. 15th 1905. He is sur vived by his widow and one son. AH that was mortal of him was lam to rest in the grave yard af Giles Chapel followed by a con course of friends and loved ones. The funeral services were con ducted by Rev. James A. Web ster, taking for the subject of his discourse Revelations 14:13. The writer having known Mr. Conner from early childhood can say that he was of a bright dis position and always met his friends with a hearty greeting. In early life he gave his heart to God and ever lived a consist ent christian as was evidenced by the manner in which he bore his long suffering. He was con fined to his bed for over three months previous to his death and during all his affliction did not murmur or complain but many times would say "Let the Lords will be done" and these words seemed to be imprinted on the face as it lay in the casket. Doubtless the departed soul has found that immortal throng whose robes have been washed in the blood of the Lamb. To the bereaved wife and loved ones we would say, "Emulate the ex ample of Mr. Conner; walk in the way that he trod; trust in God; then when to the gates of heaven you come he will stand with the angels to welcome you home, on the other shore" "And I heard a voice from heaven saying unto me, Write Blessed are the dead which die in the Lord from henceforth: Yea, saith the spirit, that they may rest from their labors; and their works do follow them." By a Friend. MR. KIRKSEY'S RECOM MENDATION.
