Past Two THE ASHEBORO COURIER, ASHEBORO, N. C THE COURIER PUBLISHED EVEBT THURSDAY W1L C HAMMER. Editor. Enteral as second dui mail matter ta tin postoffice at Asheboro, N. C THE LABOR TROUBLES There is still a deadlock in the labor forces in High Point. Forty-eight fac tories are strut down and have been for two weeks. Manufacturers remain firm in refusing to deal with the labor unions through their representatives In some instances some of the members of the labor union have picketed non union labor from their work. Hundreds of laborers who have lived in High Point for from 15 to 26 years have not only left the city, but have left their homes and gone to distant states to se cure employment. Tne employees are leaving on every train every day. Those who do not leave and who are unable to support themselves are being support ed by committees who solicit funds from those who are in sympathy with the cause. Both sides, it seems, are uetermined not to yield. This is a matter in which the state cannot, and probably will not attempt to interfere, but the Charlotte situation is quite different. Unless tne Public Service Corporation decides to run its cars on regular schedules, there is a probability that the state govern ment will undertake to operate the cars until the Public Service Company agrees to operate the cars sufficiently to accommodate Uie traveling public. The Courier is not herein expressing an opinion as to who is wrong in these labor troubles in High romt or Char lotte, but this much is certain, that the employer who determines not to em ploy union labor is a back number, and ihoukl have no place in industrial af fairs of the country. The time has like wise passed when the laborer is justi fied in resorting to force to prevent non-union labor from working. The po sition which the President ol the Unit ed States and the governor of North Carolina ami most leaders who have the courage of their convictions is a correct one; that is that tne laborer has a right to organize, anil that em ployers have a right to operate open shops if desired.
