C., is occupying the Wallis bungalow. S. J. Tinsley, who recently sold his country place, has bought the Zeb Burrell property on Depot street, E. H. Glover writes the News that he will be in Brevard and have his studio open for photo graph work next week. W. M. Bradley has resigned the office of night watchman and Bright Burrell, who held the posi tion about a year ago, has again been employed. The Methodist Sunday' school is working to get a memorial window in memory of Fitch Taylor for the Sunday school room of the church, We hope and believe they will suc ceed. A broken axle on Mr. H. P. Clarke’s auto has kept that “ani- mile” off the streets this w^eek. Our people have become so accus tomed to its daily visits that its ab sence causes remark. Lero’y Ball of Asheville has been in Brevard this week looking for business in the plumbing line. Tuesday he visited the Davidson river section, helping Thos. L. Gash to plan a private water sup ply for his residence. It seems to us that in view of the recent warnings our people have had, that it would be an act of wis dom for all to keep their buildings covered with insurance. It doesn’t cost so very much, but in case of fire would be worth a great deal. A. C. Commnnion Seryices at Davidson River Presbyterian church have been postponed to the first Sunday in June. The pastor will be absent for about ten days including the ^th Sunday,having been called to U meeting of the trustees of David son college. We learn that the Town of Bre vard contemplates putting a filter at the intake of its water line so that the water we use will have to pass through layers of sand and charcoal before reaching the reser voir. This filter will-give the town the best water on earth. Some new ordinances suggested by the Improvements- Committee and passed by the Board of Alder men at a called meeting Wednes day evening, are published in this issue for the information of all in terested. With the Aldermen, the business men and the ladies inter ested in a clean town, there is no reiison why Brevard should not be a^ attractive summer home. Mecklenburg Independence day was celebrated by the bank. O. V. Summey and bride are in town visiting L. P. Summey. Miss Edith Kilpatrick left on ^Wednesday for a visit to Lake Tox away. Mrs. C. R. Sharpe and son Sher rill of Calvert were in Breyard last Monday. W. S. Price is again at his post after an absence of several days on account of sickness. . E. E. Lewis left town Thursday morning for a business trip of a few d^s to Hende?:sonville. O. L. Erwin was away from busi ness this week on a trip to Greens boro, Ala., and Knoxville, Tenn. The long dry spell was broken up by a goQd rain beginning Monday night. Farmei« have certainly had some fine weather on their young crops. ^ f Rev. J. R. Owen returned Wed nesday night f jom a visit to Louis ville, Ky., where- he attended the meeting of the Southern Baptist Convention. Mrs. J. F. Henry and Miss Violet returned Wednesday from a four days stay in Xsheville, during which time they attended the mu sical festival. M. P. Holcombe of Bald Creek and his son S. F. Holcombe of Statesville, were visiting in, Bre vard Saturday and Sunday last, aijd stopping at the Henning Inn. Otto V. Summey and Miss Flor ence Calhoun were married last Sunday at Lake Toxaway by Rev. R. G. Tuttle.
