Trade Interests were good buyers on the break to 16.06 for March and 12.40 for July, however, and as soon as the more urgent early offerings had abaorbed the market turned steadier on covering. Business was quiet during the middle of the day and bulges were not fully maintained, but buying became more active later with March selling at 16.45 and July at 12.76 or about 16 to 40 points above the low level of the morn ing. Last prices were within some 5 tu 9 points of the best. There was some nervousness over the possibility of ad vances In rediscount rates during the: earlier trading but this seemed to be re-! Ileved by the late advance in the atock market and Washington advances stating that only routine matters, had been taken 1 up at the meeting of the federal reserve board. DEPEESSION ON COTTON MARKET NEW ORLEANS. .Ian. SO fnttnn I. dopressed from the opening today, ad though not very wide and the net changes for the day were declines of 9 to 25 points. uno'iwwi wmi muni lower man aue when the local market opened and con siderable selling ensued with the result that before the session waa very old prices were 47 to 64 point under yester day's close. This was the low of the day. In the trading that followed there were partial recoveries but the market never acquired sufficient strength to get to g"o to net advances. During a good part of the session decline amounted to 20 to 10 points. Spots were reduced 23 points which made middling 40c. This compared with 17o as the low price of the day on March and 10c as the low on October and these account caused considerable comment without, however, leading to any new buying of consequence. The weather map waa considered very favorable because it reflected warm and dry weather over the entire belt but the forecast called for generally rainy weather with snow and freexing In north western sections. Weather prospects helped steady the tone after the intial decline. Cotton closed steady at a loss of t to 25 points. Month January March . . May ... July ... October .
