Trie PerYasr Established 1886. EDENTON". . C, FRIDAY. OCTOBER 17, 1890. NO. 277 BROWN'S MILL. ANOTHER OF EDENTON S GROWING INDUS TRIES. At this mill business seems to be on the move and in pace with other and like enterprises. It is located in the souVeastern part of the city, near Johnston's creek, a most desira ble site for an enterprise of this kind. The lumber sawed by this mill is of an excellent grade. Mr. W. H. Brown, its proprietor, came to Edenton only a few years fcince with but small means and es tablished this mill, and the business he is now doing, shows plainly that by perseverance industry and econo" my, that he has cause to cougratu'ate himself upon the enormous patronage he is receiving. This mill cuts about 10000 feet of lumber per day, and ghes employ ment to quite a large number of our laborers. Mr. Brown has a planing department and a department for the manufacture of boxes, crates, &c, for the shipment of potatoes, peas, beans and fish, which pays well. Another evidence that small indus tries, managed well, will succeed in Edenton. Come To The EDEJYTOJT FMRJxmmw succeeds Like Success. HUNTING. Mr. Editor: While you are writing up Edenton and vicinity, its advantages and attractions, it might be well to speak of the vari ous kind of game that abound in large quantities in the surrounding country. The many large farms near Edenton being frequented by numerous kinds of birds afford much pleasure during the winter season to the sportsmen. Patridge shooting is exceptionally fine which many of you by experience can attest Those who are fond of the chase can find foxes anywhere ready to give them a long run . Hares can be found along any hedge, or under most any brush pile Racoons, opossums, wild cats and squirrels, are numerous In some sections wild turkeys are quite plentiful. Deer hunting is creating right much attraction of late, Deers are becoming quite numerous in many sections of our country. Some of our best hunting grounds are within thirty miles ride of Edenton. It not unirequentiy occurs mat our sportsmen jump up three or four in a bunch The writer of this arti cle saw four large Bucks some time ago running together, Deer hunting seems to be the most exciting of ail our gaming. It takes a fellow with strong nerves not to tremble in his knees when he hear the hounds com. ing in lull tilt after a deer. Bear can be found in the pocosens and deserts.
