CxO see it and enjoy yourself. PROSPECTING. A gentleman from Milwaukee is in the city prospecting. He is a raiser of stock and is looking for a Southern location. He has yiited some parts of the county and we learn he is very favor ably impressed with this section. We know of no place better adapted to stock raising than Eastern Carolina, and if he trav els the State over he will find no better location for him than Chowan county. A NEW INDUSTRY. Mr. W. O. Speight, who re cently removed from Hertford to his farm near Edentou, has pur chased the necessary machinery lor the manufacture of pressed brick. The machinery is now being placed in position and Mr. Speight hopes to have some fine brick on the market in a very short time. A brick yard is something we have needed for a long time and we wish this en terprise success. A WORTHY COLORED MAN DEAD. Slant Skinner, one of the best, mo.st polite, accommodating and highly respected colored citizens of Kdenton, and a popular hotel waiter, died Tuesday, the 16th, at Kli.abcth City. His remains were brought to Edeuton and huried yesterday by the order of Love and Charity. THE FARMERS. Warm, dry weather is needed to enable farmers to push ahead with their work, which is much behind. Corn planting is pro grossing as rapidly as circum stances will permit, and is about half finished on uplands; some corn is up. Truck crops con tinue promising, although some damage is reported from the hail that fell last Sunday. MILLINERY. A certain young man went out Monday, lost a half-a-day's time, paid a colored boy 25 cents to row the boat, and came home with three little perch not as long as a postal card. Another gentleman brought home a bunch of "cats" and sold them for 8 cents. A.J. Bateman has opened his Soda Fountain -and Milk Shake, the first of the season; call and try a fresh cold drink, only five cents.
