MARRIAGE 18 ANNOUNCED The marriage of Miss Rebecca Smith and Mr. Charles Clarke has Just been announced. The wedding occurred at Pickens, South Carolina, Sunday, April 3rd, with probate Judge E. A. Lewis officiating. Mrs. Clarke Is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. J. A.. Smith, of the Quebec section, and attended Rosman high school. Mr. Clarke is the son of the late John Clarke and Mrs. Clarke. The couple will reside temporary with Mr. Clarke’s mother. COMMUNITY SINGING IS SUCCESSFUL EVENT The community singing held at Middle Fork Raptlst church Sunday afternoon was very successful and a large number attended . E. D. Ran dolph was in charge. LAKETOXAWAY We have Just learned that the long talked of road, between Lake Toxa way and Glenville. by way of Cold Mountain. Is to ba built. Work to be gin at once. This will shorten the distance between Toxaway and Glen ville by many miles, and will be a beautiful drive. John Rogere is visiting relatives in Asheville. Mr. and Mrs. C. G. Rogers, Jr., and little daughter, Shirley Christine, spent Sunday with Mr. and Mrs. C. G, Rog ers. Sr., at Cashiers. Born, to Mr. e.nd Mrs. Edward John son. April 29th. a son, Edward Riley. Mrs. Johnson was before her marriage, Miss Oneida Wilde. Mr. and Mrs. Harrison Hall, of Nor folk, Va.. who have been visiting the latter's parents. Mr. and Mrs. C. C. Hall, have returned home. They were accompanied by Mrs. C. C. Hall, who expects to spend several weeks visit ing in Norfolk. Mrs. W. A. Finley and Mrs. E, C. Johnson, of Asheville, spent Friday with the former’s mother, Mrs. Har vey Rogers. Quite a large crowd attended the prayer meeting and singing at the home of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Wilde, Sat urday evening. The Gloucester choir was present, and their songs were greatly enjoyed. Word has been received by relatives from J. H. Lee, since he arrived at Portland, Ore. He says times are good and work plentiful, out there. Fred Hall is spending some time in Norfolk, Va. Cleon Williams, of Asheville, was a Toxaway visitor, Saturday. Mrs. Garrison Rollins and son, of Gastonia, are visiting the former’s mother, Mrs. I. S. Fisher, and other relatives here. Miss Myrtle Lee Fisher recently stepped from a car to open a gate be fore the car had stopped moving and fell, resulting In the breaking of her arm. That was an able and forceful sermon preached by the pastor, Rev. N. H. Chapman, at Oak Grave church last Sunday morning. ITte subject was "The Seven Devils." The seven devils, as presented, were malice, the spirit working to Injure others: Strife, the perpetrator of angry contentions; Envy, the selfish being, holding a grudge to wards others; Opposition, the contrary, hostile spirit; Spite, the one whose de light Ir to vex and who habitually holds grudges; Jealousy, the suspicious, distrustful, resentful spirit: Ungodli ness, the wicked. Impious, atrocious spirit. All these, the preacher said, were cast oul of Mary Magdalene by the merciful Christ, and he also refer, red to the "legion” of devils that ! were cast out of the maniac at Gadara, enough to run two thousand hogs crazy.
