OOODWIK ELIZABETHTOWN, May 3—Mlsa Lois Christine Fisher, daughter of Mrs. Anaell Fisher and the late Mr. Fisher, became the bride of Dr. Cary Jackson Goodwin, of Brevard, Sunday morning at 8 o'clock at the home of the bride’s mother. The Aev. W. O. Biggs, a for mer pastor of the bride officiated. The lower floor of the house was thrown en suite and arranged with evergreens and ferns. An improvised altar formed near the fireplace and tall baskets of madonns lilies and eleven branched candelabra with many tall cathedral tapers were used In decor ating. I>. S. Trammel, of Hendersonville, played a program of nuptial music prior to the ceremony. Miss Sarah Clark was vocal soloist, singing "I Love You Truly.” Mr. Trammell's selections included: "Romance,” "I Love You Truly,” “Traumerel,” Lohengrin's bridal chorus as the processional, and Mendels sohn's wedding march as the reces sional. : The bride-to-be was given In mar-1 rlage by her brother. The bride-elect was attired in a| triple sheer navy blue crepe dress with f a corsage of white orchids. She wore j with this a Gibson girl bat of navy blue with a navy blue veil. He opened his dental offices in Bre vard during the past year. After the ceremony. Mrs. Fisher, mother of the bride, entertained the wedding party at an informal wedding breakfast, Immediately after which the couple left for a wedding trip. Mrs. Martin was assisted In entertaining by Mrs. Tom mie Hampton. The routine business was In charge of the president, Mrs. Winston Ash worth, who also read an Interesting article. Devotionals were led by the class teacher, Mrs. J. B. Jones. A social feature and refreshments followed the meeting. Miss Willie Roberta McCall, to Earl I.lvingston Merritt, son of Mrs. Minnie Merritt, of Greenville, S. C. The ceremony was performed Sunday, April 17, at the Methodist parsonage j in Greenville, with the pastor, the Rev. | C. 1. Doggett, officiating. Mrs. Merritt Is a graduate of the Brevard high school in the class of 1932. Mr. Merritt received his educa tion at Welcome high school and the j Greenville Barber school. Mr. and Mrs. Merritt are making their home in Greenville. It EC EXT BRIDE HOXOTtED with surprise shower Miss Ruby Oarland, Miss Beatrice Greene, Mrs. Allison Orr and Mrs. Ethel Summey entertained with a surprise miscellaneous shower Monday evening at the home of Mrs. Summey, honor ing Mrs. Joe Nicholson, the former Miss Sadie Hood. Little James Gordon Primm and little Jo Anne Green entered the living room pulling a decorated wagon with the lovely shower of gifts. BETSY BRITTAIN HAS BIRTHDAY PARTY Betsy Tirtttnin celebrated her fifth birthday anniversary Saturday after noon with a party given by her mother, Mrs. Willis Brittain, at their home on East Main street. A pretty color arrangement in pink and white was carried out in the deco rations and refreshments of Ice cream and cake. A large white birthday cake with pink candies and pink Jeoo rations centered the dining room table. Games were played and the opening of the lovely birthday gifts afforded ' much pleasure for the little folks. A number of little friends were pres ent to assist Betsy In celebrating the happy event from 4 to 6:30 o'clock. PRESBYTERIAN CIRCLES TO MEET THURSDAY THIS WEEK The three circles of the Presbyterian church will meet Thursday afternoon and evening of this week. Circle No. 1 will meet with Mrs. E. P. McCoy at Pisgah Forest; the meet ing of Circle No. 2 will be at the home of Mrs. Fred Miller, with Mrs. T. K. TO MEET MONDAY AFTERNOON The May meeting of the Waightstlll Avery chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution will be held Mon day afternoon at 3:30 o clock at the home of Miss Annie May Patton. DEVELOPMENT OF OPERA BTUDY TOPIC BY WEDNESDAY CLUB The Brevard Wednesday club met at the home of the hostess, Mrs. O. L. Erwin, Wednesday afternoon, April 27th. There were seventeen members present and a number of guests. Opening exercises and a business ses sion was under the direction of the president Mrs. David Ward. Mrs. Alex Klzer, chairman of the program com mittee, gave her report and the club by unanimous vote accepted the report as submitted. The course of study for next year will be "International View points of the United States" and will he worked out to cover our relations with the principal foreign nations. After the exchange of books a de lightful program was given by some of Brevard’s most talented musicians. Mrs. Frank Jenkins was In charge and presented Miss Duello Smith, of Bre vard college faculty, who read a most Interesting paper on "Development of Opera," after which the following num bers from famous operas wero given: Torreador Song, from Carmen, by Jack Baber, of nrevard College; Bar carolle, Tales of Hoffmnn, Mrs. H. R. Bobst; Within This Sacred Dwelling, Magic Flute, Mozart, Vision Fair, Horo didade, Professor Alvin Moore; Home to Our Mountains, Illtrovatore, Duet, Mrs. Knox DeLong. Mr. Moore; Lul laby, Mrs. Knox DeLong. At the close of the program the club gave a rising vote of thanks to thoso who made this excellent program pos sible. During the social hour which follow ed the hostess served a lovely salad course. Picxrc AND HIKE ENJOYED Members of the Junior B.Y.P.U. of the Baptist church enjoyed a hike and picnic Tuesday evening near Camp Carolina. The young people met at the church and were driven In cars out to the picnic grounds. After a hike up the nearby mountain, the jolly group of young folks gathered for a picnic sup per and welner roast. About twenty young folks enjoyed the occasion, chaperoned by the leader, Miss Marjorie Garren. MRS. ARTHUR McCRARY HEADS DISTRICT WOODMEN CIRCLE Mrs. Arthur McCrary, of Brevard, was elected president of the district Woodmen Circle, at the meeting held Wednesday of last week in Asheville, In connection with the annual Wood men of the World meeting. Miss Marjorie Garren, another mem ber of the local circle, was the retir ing vice president. Mrs. A. B. Gallo way was elected district auditor. Those from Brevard attending the Asheville meeting last week were Mrs. Arthur McCrary. Miss Marjorie Gar ren. Mrs. A. B. Galloway and Mrs. Marvin Garren. FORTNIGHTLY CLl’R IN REGULAR MEETING The regular meeting of the Fort nightly club was held Thursday after noon at the home of Mrs. J. E. Loftis. The president, Mrs. Ooodo Loftis, was in charge of the business transactions. Mrs. Loftis road extracts concerning the triennial convention of the general federation to be held in Kansas City next week. Mrs. B'.irt Loomis, program leader, gave an Interesting discussion on Nic aragua, telling of its geographic loca tion, resources, commerce and other facts concerning this largest republic of Central America. All members und substitute mem bers, were present. The hostess, assisted by her daugh ter, Betty Loftis, served an Ice course during the social half-hour.
