Poor of the Clear Paper team began the elite “600’* club at Ecusta on October 15 with a three-game total of 639 pins. For this three game total L. C. has scores of 220, 245 and 165. Poor’s 245 pin game and 639 pin set score plus his handicap of 20 pins st that time gave him a total of a 265 pin game and a 699 pin set, the highest individual game and set scores of the season thus far in the Men’s Handicap League play. Tom Conley joined Poor’s “600“ club on Thursday night, December 17th with a set score total of 605 pins. Tom’s POOR CONLEY I three game series included games of 171, 230 and 204 pins. With his handicap of 24 pins Tom is credited with a 254 pin game and a 677 pin set, which gave him high individual game and set honor for his team, which is known as the Bums. At this writing twenty-six bowlers have made the “500” club of the Men’s Handicap League and thirty-one howlers have achieved this honor in the men’s Scratch League. How ever, the “200” club has fewer members in each league with twenty howlers listed in the handicap league and twenty-five 200 club mem bers listed in the scratch league. BOWLING INFO . . . Interest continues to mount here in bowl ing, and thanks to The Echo, we are this week carrying a diagram at the right giving pin identification. Ten pins are set in standard triangular arrange ment with twelve inches between all pins, center to center. Jus tus, Nesbit Also Star The Brevard college cagers waltzed to a pair of conference victories over Spartanburg here last Saturday night with the girls tak ing a 71-65 decision and the boys winning, 77-65. Mack Bridges was the Mr. Big for the Brevard boys with 29 points. He was trailed by Don Justus and Frank Nesbit with 16 and 14 points respectively. Roy Beach was top man for the losers with 22 points. Judy Morris and Dot Wilkinson showed the way for the Brevard lassies with 26 and 21 points re spectively. Carolyn Ferguson chalk ed up 28 for Spartanburg. Stars Named The legionnaires increased their first place standing in the bowling league by defeating the Rotary club two out of three on Monday night, while the second place team, Barnett’s Machine Shop, dropped a match by the same count to Sam’s Drive-In. In the other game of the night Brunswick Billiards defeated Bilt more Dairies, 2-1, and they are in third, very close on the heels of Barnett’s. The rest of the standing is as fol lows: Sam’s Drive-In, Biltmore Dairies and Rotary club. Charles B. Disher, with a 516 set and James Avery, with 501, led the legionnaires to victory over the Rotarians, who gave the first place bowlers a run for their money. Pete Wright was the big gun in the Biltmore win with a 501 set. Rube Coman was tops for his Bilt more team with a 527 set, and Chil ders had a 191 game and a 519 to tal. Charles Link headed the list for Barnett’s with a high game of 218 and a 555 set. However, the star of that match was Ray Rigdon, who amassed a 580 total and a 212 game. He was most ably assisted by Landreth who had a 551 set and a 216 game. Local “All-Stars” Win Over Rosman Brevard “All-Stars” nosed out the Rosman “All-Stars” in a game last Wednesday night at Rosman by the score of 85-50. Stribling led the winners with 33 points, while Whitmire topped the losers with 24. The half-time score was 50-20. Folks used to deny themselves luxuries to have money in the bank —today they go without money to have luxuries. Opportunity is what opens the door for you, but it takes hard work to stay on the inside. BLUE DEVILS TO FACE GREENIES Game Will Be Played Here Thursday. Locals Travel To Asheville Saturday Brevard’s Blue Devils will be seeking another victory over the Christ School Greenies when the two teams meet here on the Bre vard college hardwood on Thursday night. It will be a twin bill affair, with the Jayvee game getting underway, at 7:30 o’clock, and the varsity af fray immediately following. On Saturday night the Blue Dev ils travel to Asheville to meet the Asheville School for boys varsity and junior varsity teams. Last Friday night the locals lost a heartbreaking overtime game to Mills River by the score of 60-56. The Mills River girls also nosed out Brevard, winning the opener, 49-26. Bill Carland and Norman Daven port fired the six points for Mills River in the overtime period that sewed up the game. Brevard could manage only two points. The regulation game ended in a 54-54 tie. Carland was high for Mills River with 27 points. Lee Gor den hit 14 and Davenport 10. David Cudd was high for Brevard boys with 17. Margie Cooke and Shirley Mar lowe set the pace for the Mills River girls with 16 and 14 points respectively. I COLLEGE CAGERS SEEK VICTORIES Will Play At Western Caro line Saturday Night. Face A-B Here Tuesday The Brevard college cagers would like to add two more victo ries to their 1954 record during the coming week, Coach James Fitz patrick states today. On Saturday night they play Western Carolina at Cullowhee, and the local coach hopes his bas keteers can do as well over there as they did here when the two teams met on January 21. The game was a benefit affray for the March of Dimes, and the ! Tornadoes were on the long end of a 81-72 score. Next Tuesday night Asheville Biltmore comes here for a confer ence game, which will be played on the college hardwood.
