My husband died on June 11th. He was receiving Social Security benefits. What should I do with the check that is due on about July 3rd? A. As you apparently real ize, the check that arrives on or about the third day of each month represents pay ment of the benefit due for the preceding month. Since a monthly benefit is not pay able for the movtth in which a person dies, even if death occurs very late in the month, the check should not be cashed. It can be return ed. unopened, to the Post Office, for return to the sender, or it can be brought or mailed to the nearest So cial Security Office for re turn. This procedure applies if the check is in the name of the deceased. Wo.uld you please tell me where to send my doctor bills? A. If the services were rendered in North Carolina you would send your claims form, with the doctor’s item ized bills attached, to this address: Prudential Insur ance Co. of America, Medi care B Division, P. O. Box 1482, High Point, N. C., 27261. If the doctor’s ser vices were rendered in anoth. cr state the claim should be filed in that state even if you live in North Carolina. If you do not know the ad dress of the office in the other state you need only to contact us for the proper mailing address. Please be sure, when filing a Medicare claim, that you attach the doctor’s itemized bills. They should show your name, your Social Security claim num ber, the doctor’s name and address, a description of the services rendered by the doc tor, and his charge for each service. Remember that an itemized bill is needed, apt simply a receipt for a paid bill. CHOCO-COCONUT BARS 1 cup sifted cake flour Vi cup sugar y3 cup butter 2 eggs 1 cup sugar Vi cup sifted cake flour V2 teaspoon double-acting baking powder 1 y3 cups (about) flaked coconut V2 cup chopped walnuts 2 semi-sweet chocolate squares, finely chopped 1 teaspoon vanilla Vi teaspoon orange rind .gjj ! Combine 1 cup flour and Vi cup sugar. Add butter and mix until thoroughly blended. Press into ungreased 9-inch square pan and bake at 350° for 15 minutes. Meanwhile, beat eggs until thick and light In color. Add 1 cup sugar, 1 tablespoon at a time, beating thoroughly after each addi tion until mixture is light and fluffy. Sift Vi cup flour with the baking powder; fold Into egg mixture. Add coconut, nuts, choco late, vanilla, and orange rind; mix thoroughly. Spread on top of baked mixture in pan and return to oven. Bake 20 to 25 minutes longer or until lightly browned. Cut in squares while warm. Makes about 2 dozen squares.
