Public Rela tions Director of Brevard Col lege and member of the music faculty there, will be heard in a benefit recital. The recital will be held at the Parish House of St. John in the Wilderness Episcopal Church, Flat Rock, on Tuesday, August 17, 1971 at 8:15 p. m. Miss Georgia Henson, also a member of the Brevard College music faculty, will be his accompanist. The concert will be for the benefit of the Ladies Aid So ciety of the Church of St. John in the Wilderness and open to the pijblic. The Ladies Aid Society is a community organization which maintains a clothes closet and a hospital supply loan closet for the benefit of needy per sons in the Flat Rock area. Governor Cherry appointed Mr. Eversman a member of the North Carolina Recreational Ad visory Commission in 1947. He served as a member of the Board of Trustees of the Na tional Industrial Recreation As sociation for six years. He has served as president of the Brevard Music Festival, and during 1952-54, he was the pub lic relations director of Brevard College. In addition to his present po sition at Brevard Colleges Mr. Eversman is president of the Board of Trustees, Vagabond School of the Drama and Flat Rock Playhouse; and Public Relations Consultant and Rep resentative of the Brevard Mu sic Center. Miss Henson, pianist who will appear with Eversman, has been choral director and as sociate band director at Bre vard High School during the pttSt three years. She is a grad uate of Western Carolina Uni versity at Cullowhee and re ceived her Master of Art* de gree from Appalachian State University in noone. Miss Hen son has been named choir direc tor and organist for the Church of St. John in the Wilderness and will assume her duties there on Sunday, August 22nd. Kearns Is With C P & L During Summer Months Thomas Nelson Kearns of Brevard is among 110 students gaining first-hand experience in the electric power industry as a summer employee of Carolina Power & Light Company in Sky land. Kearns is a rising junior at North Carolina State Univer sity. CP&L has had a summer stu dent employee program for ap proximatelv 50 years. J. S. New fcold, CP&L personnel director, said promising university, col lege and high school students are hired by the utility to help relieve regular employees for summer vacation. The summer work also is a possible preliminary step to ward fulltime employment after graduation. A number of pres ent employees now in manage ment positions were CP&L sum mer employees while attending area colleges and universities. The majority of the students are from NCSU and other branches of the University of North Carolina. In addition, 34 other schools are represented by the student employees. Specific guidelines to assist in Federal reviews of the equal employment posture of Govern ment construction contractors across the country have been is sued by the Department of La bor. The guidelines provide a new government - wide stand ard and will cover all construc tion projects of Federally - in volved contractors. Henderson, 22, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. Oscar Henderson of Lake Toxaway, is now serving in Augsburg, Germany, with the U. S. Army. He is a Medical Specialist with the 1st Bat talion, 26th Infantry. He has been in Germany for the past year. SP/4 Henderson attended grammar school at T. C. Hen derson in the Quebec Com munity and high school at Ros man. He had not completed the work at Rosman when he enter ed the Army in February, 1970, so he is now finishing his high school diploma work in the Army. Henderson is the grandson of T. C. Henderson, the Transyl vania county educator for whom the Quebec elementary school is named. I On August 22nd First Baptist Church Youth Choir Will Sing "Tell It Like It Is" "Impact Of Spirit" Will Sing At Little River Baptist Church The 35 voice “Impact of Spirit” of Mobile, Alabama, will be presented in concert Wed nesday night, August 18th, at 7:15 p. m. at Little River Bap tist Church. Eighteen anthems from the Early Church, folk, spiritual, go: pel, contemporary, and gen eral music styles will be sung. The choir will be on its annual tour, which this year takes them through four states. G. Leon Starr, Minister of Music of the Oakdale Baptist Church, is director of the choir. Rev. Jesse A. Bailey, pastor of the Little River Baptist Church, cordially invites the public to attend this service of Sacred Music. No admission charges will be made. An afterglow will follow the concert with the choir singing ‘patriotic” music. Sylvan Valley Will Hold Second Friday Night Dance Even though the second Fri day falls on Friday the 13th, the Sylvan Squares will hold their regular dance as sche duled. “If you are superstitious, come on out to the American Legion Hall at 8:00 p. m. and dance to the calls of Richard Silvers. All efforts will be made to see no misfortune comes to you,” officers say. The workshop, taught by Gordon Hoxit, continues on each Thursday evening in the base ment of the First United Metho dist Church. All dancers who would like to improve their dancing and learn new calls are urged to attend. With fall just around the corner it is time to be think ing of a fall beginners class. The Youth Choir of the First Baptist Church will sing the Christian Folk Musical, “Tell It Like It Is” on August 22nd at 8:00 p.m. This is one of the best of all the Folk Musicals that have been written in re cent years. It was composed by Ralph Carmichael and Kurt Kaiser. The Youth Choir is under the direction of Mrs. Art Fore, Min ister of Music at the First Bap tist Church. The accompanist for the musical are: Marie Good win, piano: Robert Baughn, per cussion; Danny Bennett and Gary Parker, guitar. The public is cordially invit ed to this worship experience in the form of a Christian Folk Musical.
