When asked how the team was doing in pre-seasonal prac tice, Coach Larry Burch had this comment: “We’ve been working at a very tough and rapid pace, but we still are not at the point we should be. We’ve had several pre-season scrimmages and I’ve seen sev eral rays of fine basketball play; however, with the large BREVARD COLLEGE BASKETBALL Nov. 20 UNC - Asheville “B” Team Home 7:30 23 Gainesville Community College Home 7:30 29 Hiwassee Home 7:00 Dec. 1 Montreat Anderson Cbllege Away 7:30* 4 Wingate College Away 7:30* 6 Northeaster Oklahoma A&T Home 7:30 Jan. 4 Gainesville Community College Away 8:00 7 Louisburg Double Header Away 7:00 9:00 8 Louisburg Double Header Away 7:00 9:00 12 Mitchell College Away 8:00* 15 Anderson College Home • 7:30* 18 North Greenville College Away 7:30* P 20 Isothermal Community College Away 7:30 22 Hiwassee Away 7:00 25 Mon treat Anderson College Home 7:30* 27 Anderson College Away 7:30* 29 Spartanburg College Home 7:30* Feb. 3 Mitchell College Home 7:30* 5 North Greenville College Home 7:30* 7 UNC - Asheville “B” Team Away 6:00 10 Lees McRae College Away 7:30* 12 Spartanburg Away 7:30* 14 Isothermal Community College Home 7:30 16 Lees McRae College Home 7:30* 19 Wingate College Home 7:30* • Denotes Conlerence Games (over) number of freshmen in their first year we have not been able to establish a true team as yet” Coach Burch singled out several of the players: “George Hester has promise of becom ing one of the better guards of our conference. Bill McClain is demonstrating that he can lead and that he wants to play this year. David Crawford and Jay Spain are beginning to re bound to their capacities. Mike Coles, after a slow start, is be ginning to show that he wants to play and to earn some of the same honors he earned in high school as an All-State player with an average of al most 20 points per game.” When asked' who else might have the parting forward posi tion, Coach Burch replied that “Rod Rudisill, Frank Blount, Bill Miller, Jerry Webb, and Steve Rubin are all fighting hard for the starting forward posi tion and only time will tell as to who will get this position.” Coach Burch feels that the team is fairly deep at the guard position. “Ricky McClure, Bobby MiRcr, Henry Jones, Walter Clonts, and transfer Eddie Taylor are all pushing hard for the position.” When asked about the pros pects for this year’s team, Burch commented: “We should be better, we will be better, and we want to win; however, we’ll wait and see.” Coach Burch believes that one of the major factors in this year’s success is how well the freshmen on the team mature. “The conference is getting tougher and tougher every year; however, we are definite ly setting our sights on an up per divisional placing, hoping and working for the champion ship.” When you think of prescrip tions think of VARNER’S, adv. Brevard drove to Hominy Valley’s eight yard line and lost the ball, on a fumble. Here the Midget defense took over as they have done all season.
