Donations Asked Pick-Up Day WillBeHeldOn Saturday For Christmas House Pick-up day for the toy and donation drive of the Tran* sylvania Christmas House will be December 11th, ac cording to Dr. Glenn Matheny, Chairman for this year’s Christmas House. Pick-up day was first set last Saturday, but was post poned because of the heavy snowfall. The pick-up will be made by Transylvania Boy Scouts who will canvass the communi ties looking for a white rag on doors of the houses. The white cloth, traditional symbol of a peaceful mission, has been chosen to be the sign that a householder wants to make a donation. Householders are asked to display the white rag on their door or leave toys and other items on the curb for the Boy Scouts to pick up. Donations Asked Donations of many kinds of useful items are asked for the Christmas House. Toys, cloth ing, household utensils, bed ding and non-perishable food; all are welcome. And all will be used to make a happier Christ mas for 175 Transylvania fam ilies, some of whom might have little to be happy about with out this kind of public help. Used items in good condi tion are welcome; newly pur chased items and money are badly needed. Especially needed are toys or the money with which to buy them for the approximately 800 chil dren of these less fortunate families who might otherwise find nothing under the Christ mas tree on Christmas morn ing. The usual Christmas House Booth will be opened on Broad Street in front of the Morris Pharmacy in the next few days, according to Dr. Matheny. Items for the Christmas House Clip This Valuable Coupon And Bring It To South Seas Si cjfUarium 210 Probart Street FOR may be dropped there. Sponsored By Citizens Groups Coordinated by the Bre vard Jaycees and actively supported by many chnrch, civic and social organizations, the Christnus House is work ing to insure that many of Transylvania’s poor families will have a more comfort able and happier holiday. “Many families on welfare do not have a sufficiency of warm clothing for winter, special food for a Christmas dinner, nor gifts to go under the Christ mas tree,” say the civic groups. “Let us show the true spirit of the season and search our closets and attics for outgrown clothes — anything usable,” they say. “And let all of us give as generously as we can. Let’s combine our many individual efforts to make this a joyous Christmas for the less fortunate in Tran sylvania County.” The Christmas House still has girls’ dresses that need to be sewed. “Civic and church women are needed to work on these garments that have been purchased and are already cut out and ready to sew,” say the sponsoring ladies groups. Give To Needy This year, as in the past three years, all items donated to the Christmas House will be given to needy families at no cost to them. Nominations for the gifts will be handled through the Transylvania Coun ty Social Services Department Everyone is urged to make their own Christmas mere meaningful this year by help ing ethers have a joyful Christmas.
