Homemakers Get Tips For Holidays Transylvania Extension Homemakers got a head start on ideas for the holiday season last Friday as about 100 women from the 16 clubs met in the fellowship hall of Brevard-Davidson River Presbyterian Church. The program, Holiday Crafts and Ideas, was presented by Mrs. Loretta Kilpatrick, home service advisor with Duke Power Co. Her ideas included Christmas cards worked in a crosstitch pattern on linen, a novel wreath made from cans, cookie cutter tree trims, golf ball glowworms, a holiday ice bucket, a potted bird feeder, sweet-gum wreath, firefly jar, spangled cones and various centerpiece ideas. She also showed an at tractive bread dough basket, which contained a loaf of home baked bread. “Homespun Holidays,” a booklet containing food and craft ideas, was presented each person attending. Salad Punch Adding diced or cubed ham to salads boosts their nutritive value and contributes to an appealing appearance. The addition of chilled cubes or pieces of ham makes super salads out of cabbage, potato and Waldorf salads, to name a few. The ham can be heated for inclusion in hot salads such as German potato and wilted lettuce. Use a muffin tin to make individual salad and dessert gelatin molds. In half the tins, mix grated vegetables with the gelatin and in the other half add fruit and-or nuts. You’ll have both salad and desert ready. Crais of Rosman, was married to Danny Ray Bennett of Raleigh in Atlanta Sept. 28. The 8 p.m. ceremony was in Mt. Vernon Presbyterian Church, with Dr. Frank O. Brown officiating. Bazaar Items Sought By Hospital Auxiliary With the date of the Tran sylvania Community Hospital Auxiliary Christmas Bazaar just over a week away, auxiliary members are put ting final touches on hand crafted items and collecting donations for the event. Several organizations and individuals are making items for the sale, in addition to those done by auxiliary members, who meet upstairs at the Brush and Palette Store on East Main Street. Donations for the various booths are being sought. Donated items may be left in boxes that have been placed in First Union National Bank and in Patterson’s. Lunch will be served at the bazaar. A sale of Claxton fruit cakes is being held by auxiliary members with the cakes available in most of the local stores.
