Ta BrMvrr Bnuan far ItDrwIlM al rr rafcrtrrlaa Ckwch. Rev. P. R. Law has won his suit .. f. j . e 41.- jxticing in tiongrcss ana ocrurc . United States Court of Claims. It was a claim upon the government for using and destroying the Lumber lindge Presbyterian church for war purposes by Sherman's army in 1865. The bill was introduced by Congress man Patterson, and fee and. Mr. Law have been working hard on it ever since. ' : Tbe Lumber Bridge correspondent of the Lumberton Robesonian says: "The amount awarded is below the amount asked for, but every cent goes so far by the government to pay a just debt! The finding of the court goes certified to Congress, where it v 111 have to await an opportunity for a place in some appropriation bill, fitting the money, though assured, is Ihen not yet in sight." COTTOB CBOr SINCE ISM. Says Rev. P. R. Law in the Robe sonian: In 1800 we' made 155.536 bales of cotton, 340,000 in 1810, in 1820 we made 606,061, in 1830 we made 976, 845, in 1840 we made 2,177.835. in 1 ;;ove made 2,333,71$, in i860 we niaae 4,001,292, in 10711 we mauc j,r 114.592, in 1880 we rnaje 5,761,252, in 1890 we made 7,311,322, in 1900 we made 9,434,016. In 1901 the number of bales actually sold was 10,218.000, mi 1902 the number sold was 10,380. 000, in 170,3 the number sold was 10. 4,0,000, in 1904 the number sold was 1 1 ,oKo,ooo. In 1904 the total amount of cotton consumed was 14,551.930 bales. Two things are very clear aliout the foregoing figures. The in crease of population, we do not give . the figures for lack of space, has been far greater than the increase of bdes of cotton produced. Then it is en tirely obvious that even last year's reccftPWtaking crop cll shrt of the needs of the world. Let it be kept in mind that the yeirly increase of de mand by the world has gone on while the crop for this year will tall short of the crop last year In our judgment iy possibly two million bales. There appears to be no reason why we should rush our cotton on the market Hnia' tit'n.
