Spartanburg, S. G, Feb. 21. The
Sixteenth annual South Atlantic
States Music Festival will take, place
on Wednesday, Thursday, and Fri
day, April 13th, 14th, and 15th, and
will -include five concerts on Wed
nesday, Thursday and Friday
evenings, and Thursday and Friday
afternoons. For sixteen years, this
annual event has exerted a power
ful influence on the educational life
of the South. It has always stood
for the highest ideals in music, and
has steadily advanced toward their
realization. In programs, artists,
and standards of performance,, it
has endeavored to build on a truly
artistic foundation, and has risen to
greater heights each year, until it
now stands acknowledged to be one
of the few great musical events of
the .country. t
Unusual care has been givep to
the preparation of the program and
the selection of soloists for the com
ing festival. At no time in the
history of the festival has so strong
an aggregation of aitistjs been ga
ered together. Of the ten artists on
the roster, no one but has won an
international reputation, and many
have gained eminence in the; lead
ing opera houses of Eorope, as j well
as f. this country. It is certain
that the work of the soloists this
year will eclipse all previous festivals,.,-

Why Should We Pay Tribute
to Other Sections?
Some time ago we called atten
tion to the importance of 'stopping
leaks." There is an immense leak-;
age of good money from this coun-
tty every year.
Part of this leakage cannot be;
estimated at all, fox there is no way
of keeping track of the money that
goes, in driblets of various sizes, to
tbejbig department stores; but it is
very certain that, although many of
flflyeuiittances are small, .the total

3there is another kind of leak
which is even worse, -a leak which

A Very Great
Improvement
A great improvement will soon
be made at the passenger depot.
Cement will be laid in front of the
building for the whole length of the
shed and also around the building.
The surface to be cemented will be
from 9,000 to 12,000 square feet,
arid the estimated cost r is from
$1,000 to -1,300. The work will
begin as soon as the -weather is
suitable and will be completed this
spring.
