There were fifty-two ! irr the Junior class and many more expected to enroll this morning, (Tuesday). Mr.' Waters, the asso ciational worker, arrived Sunday morning and Mr. J. N. Barnett, who , is working under the State Board and Miss Elizabeth Nuckols with the Southern Baptist Sunday School Board, arrived Monday. Circle No. 1 of the W. M. U. prepared the eve ning meal and served it in the dining room at the church. Other circles of this organization will serve in like manner each evening. WHISNANT-WATKINS WEDDING Another wedding occurred at Cliff side lao'c Sunday morning when Mr. Robert A. Watkins led to the Hyme neal altar Miss Clara Whisnant. The wedding was at the home of Mr. and Mrs. R. B. Watkins, parents of the groom and Dr. Chas. H. Stevens of ficiated. Miss Whisnant has been making her home at Mr. Watkins for several months. The groom is home on a furlough until the 23rd of this month when he will report for duty in the Navy at Norfolk where he is now stationed. We join their friends in wishing for them every happiness. REV. HECKARD TO SUMMER SCHOOL Rev. M. W. Heckard and family left Tuesday for Duke University where Rev. Heckard will attend the Summer school. The men's classes o.f the Cliffside and Avondale Meth odist Sunday schools are defraying all expenses. This is a very worthy and commendable act and is indica tive of real live classes. MRS. H INKLE ENTERTAINS i Last Friday afternoon Mrs. R. C. Hinkle entertained in hopor of Mrs. C. B. Martin, a recent bride. The guests were met at the door by their hostess, charmingly gowned in bordered crepe de chine and the honoree dressed in ashes of roses with hat to match. Progressive rook was played and the place cards were miniature brides. In the high cut, Mrs. C. C. Tate won first prize, a box of sta tionery. Mrs. Martin was presented with a handsome hand-embroidfered luncheon set. Mrs. Miles Haynes, a bride of the early spring, was given a. monogrammed guest towel. Mrs. G., A. Hines, who is moving to Ruth erfordton, was presented with a bot tle. of Houbigants bath salts as a fai-ewell gift. After the game a delicious salad course was served by Mrs. Hinkle and Miss Pearl James. Those present were Mesdames C. B. Martin, Cornelius Martin, C. C. Tate, B. P. Caldwell, L. H. Camp bell, G. L. Goforth, G. C. Shuford, A. M. Haynes, G. A. Hines and Mrs. H„ M. Owens, of Avondale. AVONDALE BAPTIST CHURCH NOTES W. M. U. Circles one, two and three will have their regular monthly meet ing at the church on Friday evening 7:30 o'clock. All the women are re quested to be present. Training Institute closed on last Friday evening. We have about fifteen who have taken the B. Y. P. U. Manual, and will receive diplomas for this work* We also have fourteen who have finished "The Sunday School Manual" for which they will receive their "King's Teacher" Diploma. We also have nine others who have finished the first or second division of the book. They are going to cony>lete thia work in the near f uutre. Roy Waters who is here in the training school, filled the pulpit at Baptist church Sunday evening and brought a stirring message. * * *• The infant of Mr. and Mrs. John Waters was buried Sunday afternoon at High Shoals church at three o'- clock. Dr. Stevens conducting the funeral service. m * *• Mr. Marion Blanton returned last week from Wake Forest where he was a student last year. He will re turn to Wake Forest for the sum mer school. * •«. * Mr. Martin Hardin, of Boiling Springs, spent the week-end here with Mr. W. R. Morrow. * * % Miss Lillie Bell Chapman, of For est City, spent the week-end in Cliff side. * * % Misses Willie Carpenter and Pa melia Pruett and Mr. Chas. H. Hay nes returned Monday from a brief visit to Notasulga, Ala. * * * Mrs. G. C. Shuford and children are spending this week with Mrs. Shu ford's mother, Mrs. W. L. Packard at Shelby. * ♦ * We are glad to welcome back to Cliffside the families of Messrs. C. P. Moore and J. H. Condry. * * ¥ Mrs. B. P. Caldwell and little daughter, Beth, left Tuesday to spend the summer at Hendersonville. m m n* ' Mr. and Mrs. C. B.
