An announcement of pleasurable interest to hundreds of friends of the contracting parties is that coming from Cliffside this week, as follows: "Mr. and Mrs. J. P. Carpenter an nounce the engagement and approch ing marriage of their daughter, Min nie Lois, to Mr. Fred E. Webb, of Forest City. The wedding to take place June 24." The bride-elect is one of Ruther ford county's most charming and cul tured young ladies, while the groom is one of Forest City's foremost young business men. * * * Five Course Dinner. Mr. and Mrs. B. B. Doggett gave an elegant five-course dinner at 6 o'clock on Tuesday evening, June 2, in honor of their guests, Mrs. L. C. Stover and two daughters, Misses Theodora and Nancy Stover, Nannie and Kansas Byers and Mrs. Ida B. Matheny, of Washington, D. C., Mrs. D. M. Harrill, Ellenboro, N. C., Mrs. J. W. Griffin, Miss Elizabeth and Frank Griffin, of Forest City. » a W. M. S. To Meet. The Missionary Society of the First Baptist church of Forest City will meet Friday afternoon, May 12, at the church. Every member plan to be present. You are needed. * * * Robert Lee Harrill 111. The many friends of Mr. Robert Lee Harrill will be sorry to hear of his illness. He was stricken on Tuesday morning and later taken to the hospital, where he was operated on for appendicitis. The latest re port was he was resting comfortably. Robert Lee is a very popular young man, who has just finished high school, having won high honor for his splendid work in school. * * ♦ Amy Hackney Society Meets With Miss Moore. The Amy Hackney Missionary So ciety met with Miss Mildred Moore, on Tuesday, June 9th at 3:30. A very interesting program was given on "Brevard Institute." Officers were elected for the com ing year. Ruth Reid, president; Mil dred Moore, vice-president; Lila Gor don King, secretary and treasurer. After the meeting sandwiches and iced tea was served by the hostess. Blanton enter • tained with an elegant dinner party i on Tuesday evening at their home on j Cherry Mountain street in honor of { Mr. and Mrs. Chas. Z. Flack, whose ; marriage took place the later part |of May. The home was beautifully decorated throughout with silver : baskets of daisies and ferns. Small tables were used at which four guests were seated, each finding their place by the use of miniature I bride and groom place cards bearing their names. An elegant three-course j dinner was served, after which pro gressive rook was played. The guests i were loath to leave, but each left ! wishing the bride and groom much happiness and thanking Mr. and Mrs. I Blanton for a most enjoyable eve ning. Thomas Monday aft-' ' ernoon. J The chairman, Mrs. J. H. Parks had arranged an unusually interest- ; ing and instructive program on that most interesting of subjects, "The j Baby." A paper, "The Modern j , Nursery" was ready by Mrs. Ayers, : also one "Baby Hygiene; Food and: ' Clothing" by Mrs. Barber. The following beautiful poems ; were read, "Baby" by Mrs. Ware. ! I "Baby and I" by Mrs. Parks. "What a Baby Costs" by Mrs. J. j H. Thomas. i i It was decided to have play and . story-telling hour at Reinhardt j Springs one afternoon of each week the children of all members to be at tended by two mothers each time: Plans for starting a baby clinic in Forest City were discussed. | Mrs. W. R. Ware and Mrs. R. W. ! ' Minish were visitors. After the pro-! gram the hostess, assisted by Mrs. J. J H. Thomas, served delicious frozen j salad with olives, cheese balls, iced ! tea and hot rolls. Music by Mrs. Minish.
