Wells, superintendent of Elmore Mercerizing plant and overseers C. J. Roarck, D. A. Devin ney and E. J. Simmons attended the Textile and Human Relationship Conference at Blue Ridge, N. C., last Friday and Saturday, returning Sun day. All report a fine conference and a nice time. BRYAN-MORRIS WEDDING Mr. Bill Morris, youngest son of Mr. and Mrs. J. D. Morris of Spin dale, was married in Statesville Mon day, July 27, to Miss Margaret Bry ant, one of Statesville's accomplish ed young ladies. The ceremony was perforn%d at the bride's home. Mr. Morris holds an important railroad position in Statesville. They will make their home in Statesville. Their many friends offer congratulations and best wishes. BOY SCOUT NEWS The Boy Scout camping trip to the Piedmont Council Camp at Lake La nier has been postponed a week, on account of the management being unable to accommodate the Scouts this week. The Scouts will leave Wednesday morning, August 12 and return Saturday, August 12. Since last week several more Scouts have handed in their names for reserva tions, bringing the total to sixteen that will attend from the Spindale troop. GET-TOGETHER MEETING OF WESLEY BIBLE CLASSES The annual get-together meeting of the Wesley Bible classes was held last Saturday evening in the Spindale school auditorium. I The Spindaletonian classes, the object being to stimulate more interest in the classes and to secure new members. Saturday evening's program was In charge of Capt. B. L. Smith, teacher of the Men's Class. After the regis tration the guests were assembled in the auditorium. Songs throughout the evening by the audience, and a male quartette by Messrs. Hovis, Howard, Cole and Starnes, were en joyed. Short talks by Mr. Fred Kinzie, Sunday school superintendent, J. W. Starnes; president of the men's class, Clarence Griffin; for young men's class, G. B. Howard, teacher of the young men's class and Rev. O. L. Simpson, were made. Following this a social hour was ob served, at which time sandwiches, lemonade, ice cream and watermelon were served. WOMAN'S MISSIONARY SOCIETY "GOES VISITING" A delegation of ladies, representing the Baptist Missionary Society of the Spindale church, motored to Chero kee Creek Baptist church, in upper Cherokee county, S.C., and organized a Missionary Society at that place Sunday. Those taking part on the program were: Mrs. Lloyd William son, Mrs. P. H. Putnam, Miss Ruth Putnam, Mrs. Nanney, Mrs. L. D. Shytles, Mrs. J. Y. Yelton, Miss Ila Hamrick and Mrs. Padgett. These ladies gave an excellent program that was enjoyed very much and made a fine impression on those present. A strong Missionary Society was organ ized at that place. Miss Ruth Robertson, of Caroleen, accompanied by Mr. Hugh Hill were visitors in Chimney Rock Saturday evening. Mr. Alton Grose, of Charlotte, spent a few days at home last week. Mr. Ulysses Setzer is ill with the mumps at present. Mr. J. O. Williams and daughter, Mildred, accompanied by Gladys and Elma Sue Griffin, motored to Broad River Sunday afternoon. Mrs. P. H. Grose, Mr. Alton and Miss Carrie Lee Grose, Mr. and Mrs. L. S. Price and son, Hoyle, and Mr. J. U. Grose spent last Tuesday mo toring in the mountains. Mrs. C. C. Barrs, who has been critically ill in the Rutherford hos pital is improving. Mr. E. O. Burroughs, of Bethel, N. C., spent the week-end with Mr. Leon ard Morgan. They were formerly room mates at Wake Forest. Mr. and Mrs. C. B. Culbreth and family left Tuesday for a visit to friends and relatives at Petersburg, Va. Miss Jacquette Hill is spending some time in the mountains visiting friends and relatives. Mr. Fred Kinzie and Miss Ethel Morris spent Sunday at Blowing Rock. Mr. L. L. Morgan spent three days last week attending the Mountain Assembly at Mars Hill. Mr. and Mrs. Tate Setzer and fam ily, of Newbern, N. C., spent a few days last week visiting Mrs. Setzer's mother, Mrs. Mary Allen, here. Mrs. P. H. Putnam left Tuesday for Columbia, S. C., to spend a few days with her husband, Mr. P. H. Putnam, who is an engineer in the Southern yard there. Sulphur Springs defeated the locals in a ball game on the Sulphur Springs ground Thursday afternoon by a score of 6-8. Saturday after noon the Spindale boys met Chesnee on the Spindale park; Chesnee win ning by a score of 14-4 in a game featured by errors on both sides. Mrs. L. W. Griffin spent the week end visiting her brother, Mr. and Mrs. I. L. Johnson, of the Union section. After spending sometime in the hos pital she was removed to her home, where she will be a life long invalid. The thoughtfulness of the ladies who gave the shower was appreciated very much by Mrs. Yelton. WEST END NEWS West End, Forest City, Aug. 3. Mr. P. L. Marks and family spent Sunday afternoon with Mr. and Mrs. John Smith in the Shiloh section. Miss Alma Williamson, of Char lotte, is the guest this week of Miss Margaret McDonald. Mr. and Mrs. Q. L. Womick and children, of Cliffside, visited Mr. and Mrs. D. C. Cole and Mrs. Alpha Cole Sunday afternoon. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Williamson, of Whitmire, S. C., after spending sev eral days with relatives here, re turned home Saturday. The Senior Epworth League of Pleasant Grove church, a few weeks ago enjoyed a moon-light picnic at a Spring in Mr. C. L. Williamson's pasture. Mr. Roby Long and Rev. Chalmus Grose were in Hendersonville Sat urday on business. Mr. and Mrs. A. C. Williamson, ac companied by Mr. and Mrs. Renn Williamson and little son, Eugene, motored to Leicester where they spent a very pleasant night last week with Rev. and Mrs. John Grose. Mr. and Mrs. Morrison Geer, of Charlotte, spent one night last week with Mr. and Mrs. G. W. Long, Jr. Miss Louise Womick was the guest of Mrs. J. P. Hardin for a few days last week. Mrs. E. M. Lawing returned home last week after an extended visit to relatives and friends in and around Mt. Holly. Miss Elizabeth Wylie, of Hickory, S. C., recently visited Mr. and Mrs. John Weir. Mrs. C. P. Jones, of near Gilboa church visited Mrs. Alpha Cole and Mrs. G. W. Long, Sr., Sunday. Mr. and Mrs. Otto Williamson, of Charlotte, spent a few days last week with the former's parents, Mr. and Mrs. C. L. Williamson and other rel atives here. Mrs. Braxton Shytles and children, of Union, S. C., are visiting Mr. and Mrs. R. T. Hamrick. Rev. and Mrs. O. L. Simpson and children, of Spindale, were the din ner guests Sunday of Mr. and Mrs. D. The protracted meeting is in prog ress at Bethany now. Mrs. Weldon Hill, of Spindale, and two daughters, Miss Grace and Mrs. Hubert Hodge, of Rutherford and Miss Nancy Hodge, spent last Fri day at Mr. W. E. Lewis'. Mr. and Mrs. Guy Lewis, Mrs. Ralph Green and Mr. William Green spent last Friday night and Saturday in Marion visiting Mrs. Harry Lee Marlow. Mrs. Harry Lee Marlow, of Marion, spent Saturday night with her moth er, Mrs. Dave Green. Mr. and Mrs. O. Morrow attend ed the funeral of the former's broth er, near Marshall, last Saturday. A crowd of young folk gathered at the home of Mr. W. E. Lewis Sat urday night and surprised Miss Grace Lewis with a birthday party. Those present were Misses Mary Toms, Nel lie Sherrill, Annie Grose, Virgie Bostic, Esther Morrow and Grace and Nell Lewis; Messrs. Lester Toms, Lu ther and Howard Sherrill, Furman, Clyde, Walter and Alton Carroll, Charles and Hugh Hardin and Wade and Grayson Bostic. Miss Nell Doggett spent Saturday night with Miss Ruth Lewis. Mr. and Mrs. Clyde Sherrill and Mr. Howard Sherrill spent last week in Canton and other places visiting relatives. Three men made their escape. It was red hot and juice pouring out. It was a copper outfit. Arrests will likely follow soon. Several stands of beer and two and a half gallons of whis key were taken. They also found another still eight miles west of town, one mTle South of the Charlotte-Asheville highway. It was not in operation. It was" a sheet-iron still, about 60 gallon ca pacity.—The Sun.
