The permanent survey is located to Reelsboro. 150 hands are cutting out right of way 100 feet wide, and have crossed deep ran and are now on the sand hills within- about two nriles of Reelsboro, a grading force have reached the New Bern road, where it crosses at Barzella Holton near Olym pift. The chief Engiueer of construction was in Bayboro yesterday preparing to locate the line through Bayboro. Then he wants to begiu work with more hands rom. He also wants to land a Barge of 500 tous of R. R, Iron and a small con st ruction engine, so as to begin laying the track from this end so as to meet the other force at Grantsbcro, They are using every possible mean 3 to have the road here by the time it was contrac ted for, and to this end they want all the laborers they can get. They want 2.50 to 3.00 more hands, for which they are paying $1.00 to 125 per day, and 30 cents a piece for cross ties oak or pine delivered at any point along the right of w"ay. TLat it shall be and is here by made the duty of the Sheriff of each County in tie State, to make a dilgent inquiry &nd report to the Judge of each term of the Criminal Court held in the County following the time when-the license tax and taxes provided for sched ules A, B and C of this act should have been paid, as to whether or not such license taxes or other taxes have been paid by all persons or corporations lia ble for same, and to make out a list of all delinquents. And it shall be made the duty of the Judge to submit the list of the delinquents to the Solicitor to the end that such delinquents may be pros ecuted for such defalcation in the man ner provided in the next section of this act. Sec. t2. That such persons or Cor porations who are liable to pay the li cense tax or taxes provided for in sched ules A, B and C of this Act and the Ma chinery Aot, and shall fail to pay the same as provided by law shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, and punished by a fine not exceeding five hundred dollars or imprisoned not exceeding six menths I and the Sheriff shall be allowed by the tt i : - a.1 a - 1? i aage sucn compensation ir malting sucn reports as he may deem just and proper, to be paid by the County," Also Sec. 40. Every person who shall practice any trade or profession, or use any franchise taxed by the laws of North Carolina, without having first paid the tax and obtained a license as herein required, shall be deemed guilty of a misdemeanor, and shall also for feit and pay the State a penalty not to exceed tweenty dollars, which penalty the Sheriff of the County in which it has occurred shall cause to be recovered be fore any J ustiee of the Peace of the County.
