Agent. machine to fully appreciate this fact. I. write from the standpoint of a mo torcyclist on behalf of so many of the boys ' who enjoy ' this fast-growing sport, and who are complaining about this condition of things. .Yesterday, I was riding down Fifth street toward Church; and seeing the danger ahead on -account of mud, cut off all the power. of the. machine, but it was Impossible to. keep bal anoed, and before I knew It, I was lying on the street . with the machine beside me. MJad , an automobile been coming that way. it would have been Impossible for me to have gotten . up and out of the way ; before It would have collided with :,me, thereby, caus ing a double accident. Very fortunate ly, though, such was not the case, and I escaped unhurt. , The street : was covered with mud and slosh ' from Tryon street to Church, and as the street is so smooth. It-caused skidding In very dangerous proportions. ; If . two machines should happen to. meet on so narrow a street, it would- be ra very hard matter to keep" them from skidding into each other. . ' ' i - -1 A tew dftyB ago, a certain party was driving ! bis. caxl around this same cor ner when the car skidded, and turned completely around, facing him In Just the opposife .direction from which he intended to. go. -. -:: N This particular corner, Church and Fifth,' is ' a veritable 4 death-trap at best ; motorcyclists and bicyclists fall there almost Invariably when turning this corner. r Never since Charlotte had -streets has there been so much water used on them, and to many who have given it much consideration,' this seems a useless expense as well as a danger- ous practiced With the same amount of .waterused dally, these ' streets could be washed thoroughly once -or twice a week, and would ? be -dean, dry and safe and a credit to the city. But - under, the present condition, - no one can tell till some .very fatal acci dent occurs, just how much of a men ace this useless sprinkling ' brings about. ' " - - ; I feel sure that the sentiment es pressed In these lines will meet the sanction of every auto 1st, motorcyclist and bicyclist in the city, to say noth ing rf the pedestrians, who, on a beautiful day are compelled to wade through the mud to cross the street. If these things ere true, surely it is not asking too much of th city, fa thers to investigate this matter at once and put a stop to the practice. C X WATLSH. ' Charlotte, November 21, 1212. , MR. G.
