She tried every doctor in ten miles of here; none did her any good. She decided to try your medi cine. The fifst bottle she took improved her very much. She took six bottles and it made a permanent cure of her. I had two colored girls living with me, both of whom had scrofula very bad. I recommended your med icine to them. By its use they are now both well. I can highly recommend your medicine as a sure cure for scrofula and a good blood purifier. Very respectfully, MRS. G. W. PARKER. Wakefield, N. Jan. 9, 1904. Causes Loss of Trade in West Indies. In forwarding the following report by Vico-Consul J. 1). Schnegg on the falling off in imports cf American corn in Martinique. Consul Chester W. Martin, cf Fore-de-France, says that the high price prevailing in the United States is responsible. The colony im ported in 1906 11,036 ba?s. valued by the customs at $16,383. Mr. Schnegg says: "For years yellow corn was imported exclusively from the United States, but lately South American corn, said to be from the River Plata, has been import ed into Martinique via France and has caused quite a decline in the imports of American corn. Although the corn coming from France is round and smaller, it sells readily on account of its lower price. The imports of corn from the United States for the three months ended September 30, 1907, amounted to 3,706 bags of 112 pounds, or 51 kilos each, and for the last quar ter of 1907 to 1,900 bags, while they dwindled in the month of January, 1 90S, to 55 bags. The imports from France averaged 500 bags per month for the four months ending with Janu- arv. River Plata corn from France is selling at 11 francs ($2.12) per bag, less 2 per cent discount, while Ameri can corn costs 12.17 francs ($2.41), not including interests on New York in voice, profits, etc." Carpenter, Baqqott & Co's Letter. Evidence has been accumulating during the week of a bullish nature, which if not strong enough to carry with it abso lute conviction and conversion from the bear to the bull side, has cer tainly been conclusive enough to re duce perceptibly the enthusiasm and aggressiveness of the bear forces. The disease which ranks second to consumption in fatalities and which has been deemed equally fatal is Bright's Disease. That it is now pos itively curable is known to compara tively few people. Unfortunately, the new " specific for Bright's Disease comes under the head of proprietary preparations, and medical ethics for bid a recognition of its merits. The Herald takes the view that having pos itive knowledge of cures effected, its duty to its readers and to humanity is to state the facts. The publisher knows of two cases in which it has effected permanent cures and of two others who had practically abandoned hope, but. who are now regaining their health. This paper is not pecuniarly interested, and this statement is made solelv with a view of aiding such peo- nlo as mav be afflicted with Bright's Disease and have despaired of recov prv.
