SPORTS CALIFORNIA ATHLETES CLAIM THAT THEY FAILED TO GET CREDIT San Francisco, March 26 The doc uments necessary to obtain" credit for two -world's records made last year by California athletes were mailed today liy the records committee of the Pa oiftc Athletic Association to the sim ilar committee of the Amateur Ath lptic Union. The reason the two ath letes have been so long in getting official credit for their achievement lis that the original affidavits were lost and new ones had to bed rawn. Fred Kelly of the University of Southern California, ran the 120-yard (hurdles in 15 seconds flat at the Pa cific conference meet at Berkley, May 110 last, setting a new American rec ord and tying the world's record made ihv Forrest Smithson of Portland, Ore., at the Olympic games in London in .1908. This was one of the misplaced rrecords. The other was the indoor rec ord for throwing the 56-pound weight ifor height, made by Pat Donovan of -the San Francisco Pastime A. C. last Tear. It may be that they have nothing to do with the case," but that all de pends on what the "case" is. The flowers that bloom in the spring or in the summer or in the autumn do have a great dea! to do with the case, when you have in mind the welfare of a people. There is a difference be tween a bare, bleak home and a flower decorated one that goes deepr than pople realize in influencing the dwel lers In a home. We speak not of cut flowers.-though these have their place. But mere money can command these. They are not for the humble homes of the many. It is the flowers planted byhome lovins: hands that seek to call in great nature's own magic to beautify home and its surroundings it is the flowers we knew when we ourselves were chil dren and that are old friends to us it is the flowers that we may turn from the strain and stress of the work-a-dav world to watch as they grow, bud and bloom, with a friendly toucn or, our hands here and there to help their j growing it is of such flowers that we . speak. Even a very humble Home, i bowered in vines and framed in flow ers, is' a lovely thing to them, whose home it is and to all passers-oy. It is now full time to be about it, all ye who have any notion that way. Sweet peas may yet be planted tor a week or two, nasturtiums should be planted now and poppies, verbenas and, i sweet alyssum for borders, tor in stance. But the varieties are endless. So soon as the earth is warm and all danger of frost gone, dozens of varie ties may be. planted or the plants bought from a florist and set out to gain time. Get busy now, be faithful to your flowers a few months and they will reward you abundantly. "Say, Sambo, did you ever see the Catskill Mountains?" "No, I neber did; but I've seen dem kill mice."
