LOCAL ITEMS. Mr. W. C. Moore, of Smith, was here this week. Mr. J. C. Flinn, of Pine Hall, attended court here this week. Dr. C. L.l4artin, of Madison, spent Monday and Tuesday here, coming up in his automobile. Messrs. Andrew and Robert Joyce are attending the Fair at Winston this week. - Mr. Jesse A. Lawson, of Law sonville, was in town on business Monday. Mr. R. H. Mitchell, Jr., of Pilot ML, passed through Dan bury Saturday. Barnum and Bailey's circus will exhibit in Winston-Salem on October 18. Dr. L. H. Hill, of Germanton, is attending court this week as a witness. Many Stokes people are at Winston this week attending the Fair, which opened yesterday. Two men, Jim Hunt and Wal ter Fowler, were arrested in Winston Sunday night for sell ing liquor. At Lilesville Sunday S. T. Smith was shot ajid killed by his cousin T. J. Flake who was drinking. While hunting squirrels near Danbury Saturday morning, Mr. Z. R. Moran shot and killed a large grey fox. Messrs. Jno. W. Gann, Chap Bodenheimer and T. M. Lawson, the county commissioners, were here Monday attending a meet ing of the Board. Miss Minnie Ball, of Elkin, who will teach in the public school at Meadows this session, began a two week's subscription school there yesterday. Mr. M. F. Martin, a prosper ous frrmer and leading citizen of Guilford county, 'was here this week attending court. Mr. Martin was formerly of this county. Mesdames J. T. Smith, N. A. Martin and A. J. Fagg and Misses Janie Martin, Raynor Joyce and Agnes Martin left yesterday to attend the Forsyth County Fair at Winston. Work has not yet been started on the bridge across Dan river at Clemmons' Old Forge. The Virginia Bridge Co. has the con tract to build thi bridge and the work was to have been com pleted by Sept. 15. The Reporter was pleased to shake the hand of Mr. John E. Slate in town this week, who has not been over for quite a while, having been laid up with his injur ies received in the street car ac cident at Winston soma months ago. Mr. Slate is still quite feeble. There will be a general meet ing at Danville next Friday of the Presidents of the various "dry prizeries of North Carolina and Virginia, at which the plans, the details, etc , for tobacco will fw arranged. Editors : Please allow me space in your paper for the death of my little grand son, Willie Davis Joyce. He was born Jan. 6th, 1905, and died Sept. 20, 1911, making his stay on earth 6 years, 7 months and 14 days. He had all the attention that a kind mother and father could give, but they could not prevent death. Dr. Simmons, of Mar tinsville, attended on him and done all he could for him, but he was called to die. It is hard to part with our little ones whom we love so well, but the Lord's will must be done, not ours. He lived at Martinsville, Va., and he was brought to his grand parents, P. H. Hall's, for burial at the family burying ground near Campbell. His funeral was preached by Elder Joel Gilbert. A large crowd of friends and relatives attended the funeral and burial. Thev will be on sale soon. Greensboro Fair will have two aeroplane flights daily, October 110-11-12-13, 1911. A represen tati ve of the Repor ter had the pleasure of visiting the fine tobacco farm of Mr. W. A. Lewis, on Walnut Cove Route 3, last week. Mr. Lewis and Mr. W. Newton Young, who is } making a crop with him, have already cut five barns each of very fine tobacco. Messrs. Walter Lackey, R. L. Lawson and E. C.
