Stokes county Republicans met in convention here Saturday and nominated a county ticket. The convention was called to order at 11 o'clock and D. V. Carroll presided over the meet inn, 0. -Jones acting S?cre tary. Thomas C.Carter, candidate for Conirress in this district, and H. of (lermanton. ad dressed the gath°ring. Priddy, Snow Creek township; NEW BUILDING FOR ASBURY School Board Will Award Con tract On July 18 For the Con duction of House—Board To Purchase School Trucks At the meetinß of the Board of Education held at the court house here Monday, an order was made for the erection of a 9chool build ing at A9bury, in the northwest ern section of the county and contract will be let for the build ing: on July ISth. An order wa9 made for the purchase of two school trucks, one of these to be used in carry ing children from the Mt. View j section to the King high school and the other for transporting pupils of the Flat Shoal com- munity to the Meadows school, j Cars To Be Sold Here August 4. It is thought probable that they were stunned or perhaps killed by the fail. Although thorough search has. been made for the bodies of the meo no trace of them basj been found at this writing. Elder F P. Stone, of Francisco, wa9 among the many visitors in Danburv Monday. Mr Stone called the Reporter's attention to the fact that we were in error recently in statin r that the , Primitive Baptist Association at Tom's Creek would be held on the fourth Sunday in August. The Association will be held on the second Sunday in August and on Friday and Saturday before. The Reporter is glad to make the correction. Tom's Creek Biptist church is located at Westfield and is one 'among the oldest churches in the | county. The last association held at this church was in October, l'.M»5. nearly nineteen >ears since.' With tine roads leading in from every direction and tenjr in a, ' thickly p ipulated section of the country, the attendance at the coming association will nodoubt be record breaking if the weather : is good. Walnut Cove, July 9.—The summer school opened this morn ing with a large number of teachers in attendance. Lverett Matthews left this week for Kingstree, S. I Mrs. John Hutcherson has re ' turned to her home here from • the Biptist hospital at Winston- Salem, much improved. Miss Yelma Barge, of Ashe ville, spent the week end with her sister, Miss Myrtle and is now visiting relatives in Martinsville, Ya.. for a few days. The ditch-digging machine which has been working on Main . street is now making flirt Hy on i Summit avenue. The small child of Mr. and i Mrs. Brown is in a Winston- Salem hospital ill with colitis. Miss Mary Frances Davis is visiting her aunt in Columbia, S. C. The .iew homes being built on north Summit street by Dr. | Helsabeck and John Hutcherson 'are now almost completed. Mrs. Chas. Lamb and little daughter. Nancy katherine, of Greensboro, are visiting Mrs. Lamb's parents, Dr. and Mrs. A. G. Jones. Miss Kathleen Welch, of High Point, is the guest of Miss Ttielma Neal. Mr. and Mrs. George Fulton and children and Miss Sadie Fulton returned Monday from a visit to Elkin. Miss Sara Newbern, of N C. C. W., spent a few days the past week with Mrs. Jacob Fulton, Jr. Julian Vaughn is spending a few days with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. W. L. Vaughn, before going to Mullins, S. C., on the tobacco market. The play "Tony The Convict" which was given in the High School Auditorium was an un j paralleled success and much en joyed by a large audience. Each character acted well. Russell McPherson acted the part of "Tony." Others taking part were Charles Hutcherson, Balph Tuttle. Olen Fair. Bill Fulton, Joe Zimmerman. Frank Marshall, Sadie Fulton, Gladys Wheeler, Myrtle Tuttle and Margaret Hutcherson. Several young ladies in Japanese costumes delighted the audience with -'apaneso sings bt t .veen the acts. Mr. J. TIME EXTENDED TO JULY 15 ■ For Buying Automobile Li cense Tags Many Taking Advantage of It Winston I Office Being Rushed Now. Announcement is made by' j Secretary of State Everette from ! Raleigh that the time for bu>ing automobile and truck license | tags has been extended from July Ist to July loth, next Tues- 1 . day. The reason for this exten sion of time, it is stated, was that the distributing offices were! unable to sell the tags fast enough to accomodate the th >us-; ands of automobile owners. It is noticed that a large per cantage of the owners of cars in this section of the State are taking advantage of the exten sion of time and are this week still using their old tags. There will nodoubt be a great rush for I numbers at the more than thirty i distributing points in the State j the latter part of this week and 1 the first of next. | The announcement is again made that persons who do not buy new license tags for their cars will be prosecuted after July I I i Stokes Boy In List Of Dentists Asheville. Julv Secretary F. L. Hunt, of the North Carolina state board of dental examiners has made public the successful applicants before the state board of dental examiners heid in Raleigh lune '•'> to-0. Fifty-eight applicants appeared before the board, ten of whom failed to makefile necessin average to secure license to practice at tins time. The Stokes County Highway Commission on Monday made formal request of the Board of Cour.tv ( ommissbners that a tax levy of thirtv six cents he made on propertv to pay interest and r-»ire r>ad bond* and that a levy '•f thirty cents he made for main tenance fund for roads. Tne county highway commis sion was in se-sion here a!! day Monday and among the orders made were the following: The contract with .J. F. Cor na'Zt-r was extended to include two miles of road I»ir.tr between 'he Stokes-Patrick highway and Lac Key 's store, in Peters Creek and Snow (.'reek townships. ' When this road is completed it will he possible to travel the entire distance around the county on graded and soiled roads. The petition asking for the discontinuance of the -'ewe! road, which was granted by the Board | last year, was rescinded, and the 'matter will be given further hearing at the meeting of the Board on the first Monday in August. Supt. of Roads M. D. Linyille requested a leave of absence of ninety days and Willis Jessup. of Quaker Cap township, was em ployed to take the place. Mr. Jessup has entired on his duties. It was ordered that a till be made at Rufus Wood's place on the Priddy road, in Snow Creek township. The request that a change be made in the survey on the Shep pard mill road was not granted J and the present survey will 'stand. Where this road inter sects the Pir.e Hall-Dillard road it will be widened out in order to accomodate traffic turning into j and out of it from both directions. Tne section of this road running through widow Duncan's place was ordered left open as a public road. It was ordered that the Aaron's ' Corner road be graded by county maintenance outfit.
