REPORT OF GRAND JURY FIFTY TRUE RILLS FOUND PRISON CAMP, COUNTV HOMF, JAIL AND COUNTY OFFICES VISITED—EFFORTS FOR DANBURY HiOK SCHOOL ENDORSED. State of North Carolina, County of Stokes. To His Honor, Zeb V. Nettles, Judge Presiding: The Grand Jury for the Octo ber term 1939 Superior Court of Stoke s County most respectfully submits the following report: We acted on 50 bills of indict ments, all of which were found to be true bijls. There were no presentments. Presentments of all criminal nature known to our body were ( made and acted upon. We, the members of the grand jury, as a whole visited the Pri son Camp, locatej near Meadows, and had the pleasure of having dinn€r served to us by the au . thorities in charge. We most re spectfully compliment the man agement of this prison camp up •>n its neatness, cleanliness and the ord?r in which we found the same. A committee from our body visited the County Home and found it well kept from a stand point of sanitation. We found che wash house in need of repair. A committee visited the Coun ty Jail anj found the condition good from every standpoint. A committee from our body visited the various offices in the Court House and found them to be kept >u a very efficient man ner and the records well kept. We, the members of the Gn- Jury, and representing a crois section of the citizenship of Stokes county, learn with pleas- ure tiie efforts of the citizenship of Danbury, which ig the county seat, in endeavoring to have cp- tablishei here in Danbury a high school, and we desiie to com s .-end the citizens of Danbury a.vi it 3 surrounding community in r it's efforts to obtain a high school and most respectfully urge all county officials, either directly or 5 indirectly interested i r . same, to use all efforts to see that our county seat and the children of Danbury anj immediate vicin ity are provided with a creditable fvgh school, thereby eliminating ■ the necessity of hauling a large number of children from 10 to 13 miles and lessen the danger of travel by shortening the route to their school. A committee from our body visiter the public schools of the county and found all the school buses in good condition and with efficient drivers.
