A fierce gale prevailed, i'.esides the building and wharves lorty-eight freight cars with contents ,von- destroyed. A Mysterious Tragedy. CHit.u.n. May 23. About 10 oVlock this morning, Capt, Wing, of the Lake View police, force, and I jeut. chuttler,of Chicago, marched Into the former's private office with a" man between them. It was ru mored that the stranger was a man who had been arrested in connec tion with the Cronin murder. This, however, the officers denied, and aid that the stranger was a friend of the murdered physician. This state ment, however, does not meet with the unqualified belief. P. O. Sulli van, a Lake View ice dealer, who is -aid to have made a contract with Ir. Cronin to look after any injuries that his (the ice man's) employes might receive, is under surveillance, though no arrest has yet been made 'The inquest on the body has been postponed until this afternoon, when a postmortem will also be made. Ordered to Hayti. Washington, May 23. The United States ship Boston, now at New York, will be ordered to Hayti in a day or two in command of Capt. O'Kane. Secretary Tracy says the order is in pursuance of his policy of relieving frequently the vessels on the West Indian station when they are ex posed' to yellow fever. He added that if any one connected with the State Department was going on the Boston he did not know of it. The officials'.-at the State Department were equally ignorant of his inten tion to send representatives to Hayti. Hurned to a Crisp. Norfolk, Va., May 23. The resi dence of T. C. Clarke, near Virginia Heach. in Princess Anne county, was burned last night about 12 o'clock', and he, his two daughters and one son and a niece visiting him, were consumed by the flames. His wife, Miss Knima lUdgood, the, governess, and two children escaped. The origin "f the tire is unknown, though it is .thought to have been the work of an incendiary. Mr. Clarke was pastor t' the London Bridge Baptist Church and was a preacher of note. Keiuitted His Fine. Inihanai'olis, May 23 President Harrison has remitted a fine of $100 and costs aggregating $750 against Sam Coy, a Democratic politician, who is serving a sentence of eighteen months in the Michigan City, Ind., prison for election frauds committed in indiananolis in ISSfi. The peti tion for the remission nf trip fine was signed by a number of prominent '"puuiiean?, including Jonn New. Election, of Masonic Officers. Wilmix.jtox, X. C, May 23.
