We wish tho Star success and place it upon our exohange list with pleas ure." ' GOLDSBORO STAR. Complimented by one of North Caroli na's most able Lawyers and Orators The Editor of the Tarboro South- enur, IjSon. Dossey Battle, says of the Star : "Wo have received the first number of tho Goldsboro Star, Geo. T. Wassom ed itor and proprietor, who is a colored law yer, living and practicing in Goldsboro. The salutatory is well written and gives no uncertain sound. The hundwriting is on the wall in letters of living light. Tho colored voters do not propose any longer to be hewers of wood and drawers of water for their white allies. They have been made stepping stones, or ladders, for whito loaders to climb to offi cial glory and emolument, until the thing is growing painfully monotonous. Tlicy have seen men join their party to day and beg for office to-morrow. They have seen thorn successful in scooping the spoils of place, when tho original panel was loft out in the cold. And there is a distressful lameness what ifie great poet calls a "damnnble iteration" in this matter, that makes the average colored politician sigh for a change. And a change he will have. This is as it should be. Every observ ing man ban looked with astonishment upon the spectacle of plums, nurtured and cultivated to fruitage by colored man, swept off by white wire pullers, rings', crs and tricksters. But our intention, when wo began, was to reproduce the views of the Star upon the question above discussed. Wo com mend its editorial to thinking men of all classes. It sounds the note of a new era and the dawning of more light, where heretofore darkness and obscurity have reigned. Wcdo not hesitate to say the above is the best, boldest and most independent expression of thought wo have heard from so promi nent a colored man as the editor of the Star." "Tho Star, by Geo. T. Wassoni, color ed, is the name of another new weekly paper just established at Goldsboro, in the interests of the colored people; it is a handsome paper and we wish it abundant success. Xrwlirrhmit. "The Goldsboro Star is a new bi-wcek-ly paper published in Goldsboro by Geo. T. Wassom, in the interest of the colored people. We hope the Star may continue to shine as brightly as it has begun, regretting only that it is to be silent on the subject of Prohibition." Africa Presbyterian.
