Schenck, Chairmanof Com mittee on Schools, made the follow lowing report, which was adopted : The Committee on Schools respect, fully Teports that they met at "the City Hall, on the night of June 1st and had colored citizens, and found it needing a little repair; one blind was broken down, and a pillar under a front por tico was defective. These were ordered o be repaired. The lot is conveniently ocated for the use olthe colored peo ple, but there is no fence around it or any marks to distinguish its boun daries. The Committee recommends that a substantial fence be built around the lot. The Chairman ol the Com. - had a conversation vrith Mr. McKenzie,an intelligent colored man. 'vho has been in charge of the school, and he eports t;at the school is pros perous, and he had no complaints to lay before the Committee. The school house ha3 Vxo large rooms which con tain seventeen desks and benches each which .will accommodate, easily, 170 children. We expect to have a cer tified copy of a deed covering this propetty to submit with this report to the. Board. Respectfully, submitted, . D. Schenck, Chmn. June 3, 1887. It was agreed to nave lliem engraved-on steel. 'Mr. Hagan made an offer for his property which the city wants to widen East Washington street, which the Commissioners refused to accept, but in place offered him $630 for the land wanted. , On motion, the following was adopt ed : - "If this proposition is refused, that we propose an arbitration of the mat lereach party to select one man and they to choose an umpire, and their award to be final.' Some bills were ordered paid.when. On motion, the following resolution was adopted : ' Resohed, That any person who 6hall carry his or her do, of any dog being under the control of such person, or shall knowingly suffer the same to follow him oj her into Green Hill Cemetery, shall, upon conviction thereof before the Mayor, pay a fine of one dollar for each offence.
