Various Changes Many things, such as change of sceupation. chare, of climate, sim ple glandular hslurbances. ami emotional upsets, may disturb r, gulntity of hat.it. It has been stated that perhaps one of the most common causes of constipa tion is the suppression of the de sire at various times during the lay. In treating constipation it is mportant that there he no feeling it anxiety becau-c boxxel action ices not occur. Another factor which contributes to the d • v» lop nn nt ami maintenance of consti pation is the wrong use of laxa tives. In the survey referred to above it was found that about one fourth of thos** studied took laxa tive's twice a week or more often. Some people take laxatives be cause they are* afraid they may occasionally miss an action of the bowels. Then, there are other* who be gin the' habit to get riel of .1 symptom, which they think is due to constipation, stub as headache, tiredness r*r excessive- gas in the intestine’s. There are* still otheis who start the habit because* they are influenced by advertising or in other w av s. Nervous Disorders There is a certain type of con stipation vvhit-h is due* to nervous disorders. Tins is called spastic constipation. The individual with this condition should endeavor to overcome the excessive nervous ness. Strain, both emotional and physical, should he avoided, and the patient should be taught to have m> anxiety concerning the matter of bowel action. Diet is helpful in the* treatment of all kinds of constipation. In the type due to nervousness, a bland dit t should be used, that is, 01 e which is free from highly-sea soned and bulky foods. Severe constipation is a disorder which should be treated under the direction of a physician, lie will decide what type of constipation is present and outline the treat ment which w ill coiled it most quickly. : r 'ht. 1045.
