Such warning symptoms as sense of suffocation, hot flashes, severe headaches, melancholia, dread of impending evil, palpitation of the heart, irregularity, constipation and dizziness are promptly treated by intelligent women who are approaching the period of life. This is the most critical period of woman's life and she who neglects the care of her health at this time invites in curable disease and pain. Why not be guided by the ex perience of others and take Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound ? It is an indisputable fact that this grand old remedy has helped thousands of women to pass through this trying period with comfort and safety. Thousands of genuine and honest testimonials support this fact. From Mrs. HENBT HEAVILIIf, Cadiz, Ohio. Fort Worth, Texas. — "I have taken Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegeta ble Compound and derived great benefit from its use. It carried me safely through the Change of Life when I was in bad health. I had that all gone feeling most of the time, and headache constantly, I was very nervous and the hot flashes were very bad. I had tried other remedies and doctors, but did not improve until I began taking Lydia E. Pinkham's Vegetable Compound. It has now been sometime since I took the Compound and. I have had no return of my old complaints. I always praise your remedies to weak women."—Mrs. HENRY HEAVILIN, R. F. D. No. 5, Cadiz, Ohio. From Mrs. EDWARD B. HILBERT, Fleetwood, Pa. Fleetwood, Pa.— ' During the Change of life I was hardly able to be around at all. I always had a headache and I was so dizzy and nervous that I had no rest at night. London, England, Oct.. 12-—Not since the Titanic sank has the world been so thrilled as by a wireless message yesterday telling of the burning in mid-Atlantic of the steamship Vol turno with a loss so far as known of 135 lives and the rescue of 521. The survivors were put aboard a flest of steamers summoned by the Volturno s call for help. The Volturno sailed from Rotter dam on October 2 for Sew York. Ac cording to the official statement she carried 22 first cabin passengers, 538 steerage and a crevv f numberlng 96. The rescue ships reached the scene of the disaster in plenty of time to save all, but for hours stood by the blazing vessel unable to to reach, be cause of the storm, the agonized men, women and children crowding the af ter part of the ship, a stone's throw away. All night Thursday the lifeboats made a desperate effort to get along side the Volturno but the waves teat them back again and again and not until the storm abated at daylight Friday did /the rescuers succeed in removing the survivors from the doomed ship. Even now only the fringe of one of the mo,st thrilling tales of the sea is available. The Volturno was well equipped with boats, sufficient, the r.gents sav for 1000 people, but the boistoious sea or lack of boat drill, or panic among the passengers, prevented the succes ful employment of them. DISCOVERY OF LARD LAUDS ISLAND Members of the National Geographi cal Society said that the reported Rnssian discovery of a continent 500 miles north of Asia, if true, would be the last great discovery of land. They pronounced it the most important dis covery within the Artie circle in the last century. The report from St. Michaels, Alas ka, that Commander Wilkitzky, in command of the Russian oovernment steamers Taimyr and Waygatch, has arrived there and announced the dis covery of a body of land as large as Greenland, extending beyond lattitude 81 North and longiiude 102 east, came as a distinct surprise to the members of the society. It was known that the Russian Government for years had pursued a survey in the Siberian ocean, but no word had reached them of regular exploring expeditions inio the frozen north. The expanse north of Canada, Alaska and Siberia has long been regarded as an inviting field for investigation, however, and the Cana dian Government sent Yiljhalmar Stefansson into the thearea lastsum mer on a three-year expedition. TESTS LOYALTY TO THE BREAKiNG POINT Mexico City, Oct. has been endless speculation here regarding the effect of Provisional President Huei ta's coup d'etat. Many appear to believe that the logical result'will be a split in the army, which they asseit has been held together only by the force of general Huerta's personality The argue that there has been dissat isfaction over Huerta's course in gen eral and that this will test loyalty To to the danger point. They look for startling developments in the near future. On the other hand, there is a large elment which believes President Hueri a t>ok the only possible course and ex press wonder that lie had not taken tlie step long ago. Huerta's friends say it is no secret that hud the depu ties believed any substantial part of the army would stand with them they would have overidden Huerta and ta ken the reigns of government wholh in their hands.
