For adults and cirldren. 50" I hope I shall be pardoned for wlu.t I have in my heart to say about Judge Frank Carter. I feel that if I have any good to say of him, it .should be said while he is living. For the most b j uitiful words that may be spok?n or written over his grav- cannot awaken the sleeper .beneath, nor cheer that once warm and tender heart, th.3re cold in death. Judge Carter is presiding over tho Superior court of Catawba county ac Newton this week. Because of con tinuations, the criminal docket has been unusually large, containing some very important and complicate 1 causes, in which all classes and con ditions, of our people, old and young, white and colored, were involve;5. And fortunately for the county, mor ally, socially and financially, it be came the duty of Judge Carter co hear and to dispose of them. For no one of all our abla and conscien tious trial-justices in the state is bet ter suited and qualified to perform such a legal as well as humane task as he has so universally proven him self to be capable here this week. All our people, the bar, the jury, the witnesses, the spectators, and ev en the litigants, themselves, w?iv made to not only respect him, but to love him for t!v wise, legal and fra ternal spirit he manifested in every case, and to every individual. Ili' rulings were seasoned with love, mer cy and justice, while he executes the law of the land to the letter, yet he does it in t' ? spirit of Christ, which is better. All are loud in his praise But what I started to say and want to erfhasize is this: Wc har Judge Carter is thinking of retiring from the bench when hit present term expires. I believe th it would be a calamity to the state. Ii is hoped his district will honor it self, the state, the judiciary, and the great judge above, by rencminatinp and e'ecting Judge Frank Carter to succeed himself to his present call ing for which he is so pre-eminently fitted. a 1 rS S3 ffl BB SES aba ae toa too - - r . i BsKBaHMOBniinoiaiiHaaBannnBiiDnBDRnHnDiiBnD i UP. .1.
