Hickory as a town, has shown it self most generous and appreciative of the work accomplished, but there are some to whom the auxiliary wish to express their especial gratitude. Foremost among these are Doctors Menzies, Shuford, Hunsucker, and Blackburn who willingly gave their talent and time to teaching first aid classes; Mr. J. W, Hartsfield, who has cut out all the hospital gar ments for the ladies saving them both trouble and expense; Judge Coun cill and Mr. G. N. Hutton, Mr. K. C. Menzies, and Mr. J. L. Riddle, who furnished the working rooms, rent free; the Knights of Pythians and Chamber of Commerce who gave th& use of their halls, Mrs. Peter Rowe, who donated the box received by Washington to send the garments in; Mr. J. R. Boyd, Z. B. Buchanan and Abernethy Hardware who furnished sewing machines, and the ladies who not only furnished machines but have every afternoon through the heat of summer sewed at these same machines for the soliders. Among these the chairman wishes to es pecially mention Mrs. M. M. Thomp son, whose efficiency in the work, as well as the amount she has accom plished has considerably hastened the time for getting on tne nrst dox, and the childnV under Mrs. K. C. Menzies who have worked so faith fully cutting pieces for fracture pil lows. These patriotic people have made the auxiliary realize the truth of the old adage, "Who gives quickly, gives twice." MR.
