I write to endorse every word Rev J. D. M'auney says in the Record about Miss Maud Eckard who so re cently finished life's work and de parted to receive a rich rewara awaiting her. IFor .several years,' it has been our privilege to know Miss Maud and to drink in the sweetness of her spirit as she would modestly tell of her rife's work. Jt was always not only a pleasure, but inspiring to see a life so full, so running over with willing service for God and human ity. Especially that part of his article relative to the "alabaster box of oint ment." When gloomy and sad wt, were always glad to meet Miss Maud, for she af'ways would brea the alabaster box and anoint us witn new cheer and new hope, and thua made life easier. She was indeed an angel of light to the young and comfort to the old. Oh, if there were more Mauds! J. F. CLICK. Huffman) The Past and Its Plague Ah, would I .could dispell the gloom of things already been, Of things I've done and left undone; the thought, "Wriat might have (been." The pungent wiT.l and flickering star lhe furure burns for me. Shall wax and wane but still I know The past shall live to be. Some curse time for its name and plague, some blight it just in part, Some bane him for the art of course fin part to dabble and to thwart: But I alone care not so much. iHow others use their powers, I'll save mine own till later days VVhen thorns shall be my flowers. Tho time may take my joy away and turn my haid to grap, iviay maKe me ieebie as a boy an strip me of my play: May dim mine eyes and slack my heart iAnd minimize my breath, I'll only beg one sacred crown That bliss to laugh at death. Lines On Flowers Beautiful flowers, Nodding the hours f life away, Pink, brown, yellow and white, Dangling in the sunlight In happy play I have often wondered If your idly dream of May? Sometimes I hear yoh laugh And see your smile, Becoming more of a mystery All the while.
