Winchester, one of the old landmarks of this townsbi and a moot upright aud honorable man. died at the home of his sou in law, Mr. A. W. Bovte, in Mou roe, at three o'clock last Wednes day morning. He hsd suffered long time with Bright's disease. Fuueral services were held at far- mo! Wednesday afternoon by Dr. I!owe aud Kev. F. W. Bradley, and the hotly as laid to rest there. Mr. Winchester was a little over It years, old. He was born and fared in Saudv ltidge township, but had bee u living on bis farm two miles south of Monroe, in the Caitnel neighborhood, for thirty si i years. Bogers, V. A. Hamilton, I). A. Price, B. C Header, J. J. Outen. Clock for the Court House. Tbe county commissioners bad a called meeting last Friday, aud met with Mr. IJ. Sutherland of Char lotto, tbe representative of tbe & Howard Clock Company of Xew York, for tbe purpose of consider ing the purchase of a clock for the court house tower. After careful deliberation aud investigation of the claims made for this clock, the commissioners gave an order for one, to be shipped as soon as it rau be manufactured, it having to be made to order. The clock selected weighs 3,300 pouuds, the hell alone weighing 1,000 pounds. Tbe strik ing of the clts'k when placed in the tower can be heard a distance of five miles. It will have four faces and will, of course, keep correct time always. The bauds will lie visible as far as tbe tower can be seen, both Hay and night, as tbe faces will be illumined at uight by electricity. The county w ill pay for the clock and tbe town will in stall it and pat in the electric lights. The towu and county are to to congratulated ou the acquisi tion of this cluck. It has been for years a subject of comment that our otherwise well Anishcd court house bad no clock in tbe tower where places bad been made for one. The clock ought to have been put np. long ngo. .
