The flues were afterward remitted. Mrs. Mary Pressnii, wife of Mr. Win. Presson, died at her home four miles southeast of Monroe last Wednesday morning. She was sixty one years old, and a sisteevf Messrs. Jeire, Wesley and .Moses lliuson. A husband, one daugh ter and four sous survive her. The Mouroc correspondent of The (nar lotte Observer gives the lot lowing account of a marriage which occurred here last Wednesday evening : ''Miss Alda Itatuwy, young-! daughter of the late YA . C. Itaniscy, was married last night at the resi dence of her mother, on Washiug ton street, at X o'clock, to Mr. John M. Fairley, Jr., Hev. George II. Atkinson, the bride's pastor, offici ating. 1 he house was beautifully decorated for the occasion, the interior arrangements Mng ew- cially pretty for a wedding. I u der a canopy of green aud white, astha clock finished striking the eighth hour, the groom aud Mr. Carl T. lilakem-y, then the bride aud Miss F.tlie Fairley, entered the parlor to the strains of Meudels- suliu'a march, rendered by Miss Maggie Crowell. (standing under the arch, the happy couple were made "No loncer twain,'' while "Hearts and Flowers'' was being played softly during the ceremony. The bride carried white carnations and wore a stylish white cloth suit with picture hat, which was ex ceedingly becouiipg. Those who know her best are heartiest iu their congratulations to Mr. Fairley. The groom is a sou of Mr. J. M. rairley of this place. He is a young man of excellent business capacity, and is held iu high esteem by all w ho know him. After the ceremony the guests were invited out to the dining room by Mrs. J. C, Fletch er, sister of the bride, to partake of the wedding supper. The table presented a beautiful aud tempting picture; pink shaded bauiiuet lan terns, which seemed conscious of the honor done them in being al lowed to lend radiance to such a sceue. "Mr. and Mrs. Fairley received a number or baudsome presents. There were very few attendants, the marriage being a very quite affair." The Grand Jury. They also set aside to the surplus fund V:t,nU0. This morning the stock holders of the bank met and re elected the old board of directors. The directors then met and elected Mr. W, H. Blakeney president, A. M. Slack, vice president; W. C Wolfe, cashier, and W. C. 8tack assistant cashier. ' The magnificent success of the bank is shown by the fact that during the fourteen months of its existence a net profit of "4") per cent ou the entire capital sloes nas ticen earned. District fleeting of Pythlans. The local pythiuns are expecting a big time next Tuesday, when there will lie a meeting here of the fifth district organisation. There will be several busiuess meetings during the day, beginning at 1 1 o'clock and closing with n hamjnet given by the Monroe lodge to the visitors, A number of prominent men from this scctioa of the State Wwill lie present as speakers. A public meeting, to which the ladies especially are invited, will lie held iu the opera house at five o clock. Governor Aycock has been invited. A Weekly Bible Class. A cordial invitation is given to any in the community to Join w ith the class orgaulsed lust Friday- night at the Presbyterian tnanse, in reading three chaptors each day aud live ou Sunday from the Bible, thereby completing the Bible iu a year. The class will meet every Mon day night hereafter at 7:.'!n o'clock at the Presbyterian manse. Some utroductory remarks will lie made by the leader as to the "Purpose and Scope of the Pentatuch," then the book of Getiesis will be discus sed. Nothing of a controversial nature will tie indulged in. The class exists solely for the promotion of Bible reading and study in our community. The Persistent One Yet Comes.
